When it comes to transmission i am lost...what does everyone else prefer, manual or auto? PLus i don't know how to drive manual...how hard is it to learn? Does it take a while?
People say it's pretty easy to learn manual, a few days to a week or so. Me, I don't care about Performance or anything and I like to just drive and not be bothered with shifting. So I'm one of the very few who say AUTO.
I got an auto just b/c Im constantly changin cd's, have my phone ringin, an dont really want to go that fast.
There are some days I wish I had a manual tho. But I still love my auto.
"I ride big body Benz, Gucci shade lens/ Me an all my friends got the platinum diamond grin/ Everything Im in spin, on 20" Larenz/ Lay back on buckskin, wit my braids in the wind."
I learned on auto and made the swicth. Now I cant stand auto. Shifting is so much fun, problaly funner in a GTS. Only Con: Its impoosible for me to talk on cel while in traffic only on open ways.

most people with auto celica's say that they regret geting auto over manual. i have manual and i would kick my own ass if got an auto
Agreed. I have an auto.. and drive with my hand on the center console. Ive never had an Manual, but I want one like you wouldnt believe.. (Once I get my car in my name, if I find an '03 or '04 GTS 6spd in Yellow I'll probably trade)
What are your plans for your car? If you just want to look cool and cruise then go with a automatic. If you want to head for the mountains and play with the curves then go with a manual. If you spend a lot of time in traffic and dislike the constant shifting of an manual then go ith an automatic. If you are buying an automatic I wouldn't get a GTS. Half the fun of the GTS is winding it out to 8000 and making the shift... My wife wanted me to get an automatic and I told her I would not buy the vehicle without a manual trans. It would be a waste of car to put an automatic in it. She would just have to learn to drive a stick. She ain't happy about it, but she doesn't want to learn a stick...(and I really don't won't to teach her in my brand new Celica...)
Gotta go witht the manual bud, way funner, and it's not hard to learn. The auto just puts me to sleep litirally (feel asleep going 50 with my whole family in the car) but the manual is a lot more fun to drive, and you get better cordination out of it aswell. Along with hella cool shif knobs
and heck she races it too.. she said she'll never drive an auto.. she drove stick since she was 15..
i regret gettin my auto.. and stick your more in control... auto is nice if you don't want to mess with anything else in your car and just hit gas and brake.. but if you really want to love your car.. i say stick

Must not be too skilled
I was in the car w/my friends integra. While he was driving stick. Damn near hit 3 cars. While in traffic. I had to keep yelling at him bout it. Luckly my new cell phone has speaker phone. So i can kinda talk. For me its hard to hold phone, turn wheel, and shift at the same time. I guess overtime I'll get use to it.
I've had 39 vehicles in my life, and 2 have been autos: a truck and my Celica . I love my Celica but wish it was a stick. But the price was right on mine, auto was the only negative in my mind. Learn to drive a stick!!
i learned in my celica and im still a lad, its not hard but not the best car to learn in. also if you know what your doing you can maneuver the phone while driving use your right hand to shift and turn and phone in left if you need to turn just keep it in gear or upshift to prepare for it EASY AS THAT
A boats a boat, but the mystery box could be anything....Even a boat!
I have an Auto, sometimes I regret having it, when I feel like "letting loose and having some fun" but most of the time I enjoy having it =) Most of the time I like to relax when I drive, and there's nothing like "cruising" with an auto =)

manual is the best i had both a automatic celica and the manual now and i love the manual more faster and i learned how to drive in a day, now i been driving for about a year
"I don't know what's better, gettin laid or gettin paid I just know I'ma gettin one, the other's gettin away"
why does everyone learn it auto first and then go to manual?
I learned manual. I got my celica in feb/04 (AT)... I'm kind of regret... this is my first AT (and the last one )... it's comfortable and relaxing... but definetely manual is 200% better!!! Hopefully I'll get a MT before this year ends.
I learned to drive with an Auto, then got my Celica in Manual. People complain about the Celica having a difficult to use manual transmission...they are pansies. It's really not that hard, and once you're used to it, it's second nature.
Six gears as opposed to four in the automatic.

I always like these topics, manual or auto. I especially like how people try to give reasons why they bought an auto. Not only an auto, but an auto Celica. Comfort, cruising, relaxing, Blah Blah Blah...Automatics should be banned. Car companies should stop producing them now! I'm going to start a BAN THE AUTOMATIC club. I believe the people who drive autos think people who drive stick are some crazy, bumbling, sweet in traffic, which gear am I in, oh no starting on a hill people. For me driving a manual is as easy as an automatic if not easier. The advantages of a manual are far greater than those of an automatic, which don't have any, especially in a little 4 banger.
