alright i know everyone here has heard many times about this engine swap and i have gone to previous post back to mid feburary about it. i am seriously considering the install of the 3s engine. i work at a mobil where we can perform the insatll at a low cost and the manager is kool and will help me put it in because he has done enigne swaps hundreds of times. my frind just got the 3s, only he has an mr2 so the fitting was perfect. wat he was telling me is that the engine would fit perfect for a fwd car because the engine sits on top of the drivetrain and the wheels it powers( i think he was a lil high because it is a rwd motor). i know that some of you estimate the total cost of the project to be around 8-10k. this shocked me because it seemed extremely high. maybe in cali it is more costly but i really do think that the price is high.the only way i can see it being so high is the tranny part being rwd or the awd. that they have to be altered to fit.
my question is that:
can my tranmission fit the 3s, understanding that i would have to upgrde the clutch and flywheel? or is it just not compatable at all?
and if i need to use the rwd or awd tranny: How the hell do you do a switch from them to fwd, because to me that does seem possible. that is why i was wondering if i could keep mine.
i am serious about the engine and i have about wat i think i need to make it all happen. not sure. any feed back it appreciated or any sites where i can get more info like costs of motormounts or little things that i might need. i have some that where mentioned in earlier and if you want that info pm me. thanks everone Mike
Why wouldn't you be able to mount a 3S-GTE into a FWD Transmission? All you need is a new flywheel/clutch and you can mount it into a FWD. I'm not for sure if you can do it with any toyota. But any celica with a 5S-FE you can do it. How long the tranny will last is lost on me.
WTF would you use the Celica tranny for? You want to keep the intended gear ratios for the motor you are using or else your powerband will be jacked to hell. You won't be able to keep the car in the best rev range.

belive it or not not every stock transmisson properly utilizes a cars power
hell look at our gts to land lift first second shifts you need to go to like 8500
hey thats a 20 minute phone call "if i have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" derek: do you know that non dairy cream is flamable Jennie: ...derek..what did you do
^^^^I know he has done the 3sGTE swap, built 3sgte BTW, and he dynoed at like 540 HP with 29 Pounds of Boost!!! its insane...his shop is out of Hollywood FL, near Miami...and from what I remember his car is FWD

wait...are you saying that a 3sgte engine fits into a mr2? the new ones or the old ones? because my dad was thinknig of buying a old mr2 and i told him to pass on it and get a new car...
okay the mr2 is a perfect fit, how much do you estimate would cost to swap the 3sgte?
What are you talking about? The MKII MR2 (early 90s) came with the 3SGTE. I haven't ever seen a MKIII (MR-S) with a 3SGTE in it. So I don't know what you are rambling about.
to find how much it would cost, find your local drop shop and tell them your car and your motor and they will give you an estimate on the price. then find a motor. by the way mr2 engines are loaded from underneith the car. it doesn't drop in from the top, make sure that the shop knows it.
the question that i still have is will my gts tranny with new clutch / flywheel handel and fit the power of the 3sgte. i'm pretty sure it will based on hope and dreams, and also i don't see y not.
