I've got my GT, and have rebuilt with higher comp internals, and what not, and in a couple of months I'll have the money to have the head ported, and am going to put the new cams in and the greddy emanage ecu (yes I'm probably gonna be the guinea pig for the catcams cams)...I know that the reason the GTS is so mean is because lift makes the cam timing nasty (hoping to get the cams in and have a similar effect but at lower rpm)...I was wondering if anyone knew specifically what duration the lift function sets the cam timing at...just curious...

lift is like honda's vtec puke, but toyota's design is lighter and incorporates VVT-i, (VVT-i + lift=VVTL-i) it also means that the valve lift is bigger and lasts longer along with better overlap and as you said about the timing, thats what the VVT-i is for. bit if it was on all the time your idle would suck... thumbsup

yeah, but I'm worried about the VVT-I's presets on the cam duration, and what to add when you get on the throttle...I'm worried that with the VVti and the new cams the vvti would adjust the cam timing to something even more agressive than what the aftermarket cams come with, and I would get a valve smacking my piston...that's why I'm gonna go with the greddy emanage and have the whole thing tuned on a dyno with a wideband 02 meter

sorry i took so long to reply. you'll probably need to ask toyota or trd for the variation on the VVT-i but if people can tweek with cam gears then for the most part you should be ok. i'd say to get cams that have a slight increase in duration but agressive valve lift and just have your idle be at 1500, if you balance it all out you could also rev to 8-9k rpm, not bad for a GT. or just boost the fuck out of it grin

if I remember correctly the lift cam has a 292 duration on the GTS.

I don't remember where I got this so I'm %100 sure it's right, but I hope it helps.
