I just got my Celica and I'm wondering how it will hold up to a Massachusetts winter. Everything is still stock, but I'm wondering if its going to be a sled come the snow. If anyone has had any experiences with it in the snow and slush let me know. Thanks
its great at the winter no worryes i live in norway man its near the nordpole i havent had any problems its one of the best cars i have drived at the winter
The first week of Jan I walked out to my car at around 8pm from a really long day at work to find my area was hit with a surprise snow storm. I still had the stock Yokahama summer tires on my Celi and it was a seriously scary ride home, it was more like ice skating than driving.
Next day I got a set of Michilan Artic Alpin's that practically turned my Celi into a snow cat. Check my profile for pictures of it in the snow.
If your going to drive it in winter for sure get winter tires makes the world of difference. Just get winter rubber for your stock rims and in the summer buy new rims and rubber.
"Fate can only take you so far, its up to you to decide what to do when it takes you there."
it handles ok... just make sure you get some tall narrow snow tires, and if the snow is up to your bumper dont drive in it... look what happend to me one day in the celica... and its not that fun in the snow, unless you find a nice 4 lane street with no medians... then its nice to sled around in
Thats a rough pic. The previous owner just put 4 new tires on 3 months ago so I'll have to look closer at them to make sure they dont end up like CelicaRacer's car!
mine goes GREAT in the winter!!! I have the good old black steel rims with witner tires. Worked great even with a 2" drop! I have Eibach Sportline drop, still fine in snow.

lol ho drive in the winter with summer tiers? is that normall were you live?
Mine is great in the snow. I put back on the gay hubcap rims, but I got good all season radials, Eagles, 50's and it goes anywhere. I ive in the lake Erie snowbelt. I don't know if I get as much snow as Oas, but we got 200 inches of snow this last winter, and the ground is covered 5 months a year. (sux!!). Here's a pic!!
Okay, I'm a dumbass, because I had no idea the Yoko's were not all year tires. lol I didn't have any problems in the snow with it. I just took it really slow and careful though.
But you should do that anyway when driving in snow.

Damnit greg, why did you have to remind me of that white stuff?! We just got rid of it.
fwd is not a beast in the snow. the laws of physics go against it.
however teh celica will go great in teh snow WITH SNOWTIRES.
all lat winter all i heard was people saying the celica goes terribel in the snow use snowtires and you will go great it will be a tank. jstu make sure you use yoru head when youdrive in teh snow
Never had any problems with my Celica in the winter. Don't even have snow tires. Just be extra careful regardless of the tires you have on and you'll be straight.
Wow, people here haven't really tried driving in the winter. Ever drive a WRX and a Celica back to back in Colorado snow conditions? Doesn't even compare. Celica is god-awful in the snow. However, if you get some good snow tires, and drive extra carefully, you'll be able to manage. Celica is too light. Becareful though.

I live near Plymouth Mass, I drive my Celica Year round and I LOVE driving my celica in the snow. E-Brake= Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
for real tho. Its a great winter car...just sux when you get stuck behind a sand truck
Some of the ugliest things took the longest time to make And some of the easiest habits are the hardest one's to break!!!
only problem about living in snowy states is the salt which causes rust and decay of your car...which is why i will never buy one in the North East...i will move to FL or CA first before i buy any car
my car slid around like hell, partially due to nearing balding tires. getting winter tires will help in the future tremendously, but the car is damn light and wind, angle, even minimal speed should be treated with caution.
hey, i was suggested to go to www.TIRERACK.com [tirerack.com] for good prices on tires for your stock rims for the winter.
It's good, just don't try to accelerate too hard and make sure you have at least all season tires.
I'm running some All Season Performance Bridgestones on my fronts right now and it snowed last winter and the car was fine, it was my first time driving in the snow and I became quite comfortable, enough to want to go out and play around in a parking lot with the car.

yea tires is a must...i had basically bald tires last winter (rear) and my car handled like a mustang in the snow and wiped out on a turn in my neighborhood so good tires and ur all set
My Celica was one of the worst car I ever owned and drove in winter conditions. The best was my 85 VW and the most fun too. I improved matters by getting snow tires. Now it's the best car I ever owned and drove in winter conditions. Still too light though and the ass end has a tendency of swinging out too much while driving in a couple inches of snow.
Never had a problem with it, even in 3-4" of unplowed roads. Ruts have a tendency to bump-steer a bit, tho the car normally does that anyway. Using Continental ContiEC2's. They look a lot like tractor tires but are good in the snow and wet. Just start out in 2nd and drive normal.
First time driving 2002 Celica GT on ice/snow today. Not my first time driving on ice by any means. Comparing to all other Toyotas I've owned in the past I give the Celica a D. My tires are stock. I'm reading that the tires make a difference, but as far as I can tell, it's an issue of physics. Car is very light and braking was a major issue. I watched other motorists make it look easy this morning. My car was the only one seeming to have a hard time. Easily the least safe vehicle I've ever drove on ice.
