I was thinking about getting speakers that are 6x9" instead of the stock 6.25". I was wondering if anyone has done this for the front or rear speakers and if they have any tips for doing it. My main concern is that putting these bigger speakers in the front might get in the way of the power windows.

Why? What's the point? You can get the same power from the 6.5" as you could from the 6x9's.

My opinion is the 6 X 9's offer slightly better bass, and might possibly even sound a tad better with the lower bass. But you are not going to get really low bass out of 6 X 9's without the airspace to produce the deep bass. I don't think modifying the rear would be worth the trouble, and probably the front would be near impossible. The best speakers are high quality separates w/crossovers. I would love to put in separates and a sub with the appropriate amps and crossovers. And if I was doing that I might as well get a new head unit. Just dreamin'. Good luck

you would def want 6.5 in the front. they sound way cleaner then 6x9s. i use infinity components myself. and with a amp hooked up to them, they are just plain narsty. super loud with no distortion rules.

I was comparing Boston Acoustics 6.5s and BA 6x9s in the store the other day. The 6x9s definitely had significantly more bass which made them sound much better overall. That's exactly what I'm trying to improve in the stock stereo since IMO it doesn't have much bass. Now I'm thinking about just throwing in a sub and amp and leaving the stock speakers. They have decent treble in them already. Thanks for the replies.
