http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/rumors.htm (* Toyota Celica Power Upgrade? For those of you keeping tabs on the Altezza, you may know that a model has just begun production in Japan called the RS200 Altezza. This car, though unlikely to be brought to the US, has an engine that sounds like an excellent fit to upgrade the power of the current model Celica. The engine, co-developed with Yamaha (yes, exactly like the 2zz-ge), is the latest generation 3S-GE 2.0L engine with dual VVT-i pumping out 215HP. As the new Celica was designed to combat the popularity of the Integra head on... cross your fingers that Toyota will drop this engine into the seventh generation Celica. This is not an engine swap candidate however as the engine is mounted lengthwise in the RS300. Unfortunately, Toyota has historically proven to be slow in playing the horsepower game. This may mean that more power for the Celica isnt likely until as late as the next incarnation of the Celica (8th generation-~2006). The All-Trac/GT-4 was introduced 2 years into the model year, as well as convertible models, to renew interest, so it is very remotely possible that Toyota could introduce it in the 2003 model year facelift but highly doubtful. Toyota is focusing their time and money towards Scion at the moment, and Celica sales have never been the focus of Toyota USA... *)
Anyways just wanting to share this important info with you guys!!!!!
2005 celica is most likely going to have a V-6 dropped into it from another car, full redesign (exterior, interior, mechanical) and should have over 200 hp. I hope this is all true from what Toyota has released in an issue of Automotive News a few months ago.
no sorry, I said it was in a weekly issue of Automotive News a while back. I don't have that issue anymore, but that magazine is by far the best for news about any new cars. And what I said was stated by Toyota, so I hope it's true when they say that.
If the new celi gonna be a v6, i dink its gonna be targeted to older folks; something like the accord. iono just my .02 cents.
no, Toyota is not doing that. Why have the Celica compete with an accord when they have the best selling car, the camry? And Toyota would not do that because they are interested in Gen Y buyers, i.e. Scion brand.

I have been hoping for a trd supercharger ever since I bought my celica. About the v6 thing...If they put a v6 in the celica wont they have to expand the front of car to make room for it?

I've also heard the rumors, but i hope that they are true, 200hp V-6 sure would be nice. But the eclispe is a 200hp V-6 and my GTS blows them away. more power and prefromace is always a good thing.
I dont want a v-6 they are slow as crap if the hp isn't high enough. i think a 215 hp, 4 cylinder, front wheel drive would be sweet. They won't put rear wheel drive on it, not efficient.

hell yeah a v6 in a celica ? if that day comes , i will trade in my 7th gen celica for a v6 celica. toyota really needs more horse power . whats up with all these slow cars...nissan , honda etc all is beating toyota in power ...we need more horses come on ...

, remember that if you want more HP and together with Torque, you gotta have rear wheel drive or all-wheel drive

I seriously doubt they will change the car for the 2005 model year. It's the same crap they've been talking about the supra for the past, what, 4 years? I'll believe it when I see it.
To be real, I think the new GEN is going to be I4 or I6,Non Turbo (But the engine will have a great compression like in the 9's) Engine, if it's I4 it's a 2.2L if it's an I6 it's be a 2.8L. It might still be Front Wheel drive, if they change it I think they'll make it AWD. I don't think they'll make it RWD ( since it'll lose the handling with the RWD) Body will stay the same except for the front(It'll be extended a little bit for the New Engine!!!) It will stay 6 Speed for manual and new 5 Speed for automatics!! And it's gonna be called GT-X or GT-L instead of GTS I4 2.2L FWD 2700lbs with 210hp @ 6500rpm 200tq @ 4500rpm This what I think it will change 2 by early 2005!!!! *THIS IS JUST A SPECULATION*
