!!!!!!New Info!!!!!! The Toyota Celica will be redesigned for 2004 when it is released with the Supra. There is no all-wheel-drive for plans in that model year, but the design of the Celica will have the "back to basics" look. The Toyota Supra will be redesigned in 2004. Unfortunately the Supra might not be a Supra at all in 2004, but the redesigned car will be shown this October in the Tokyo Motor Show. Even the Corolla will be redesigned as well for the first-quarter release in 2006. Even though this isn't a big thing to some, it is Toyota's best-selling vehicle to date other than the Camry. http://www.epinions.com/content_3313213572

After they completely redesign a model, Toyota always comes out with a "face lift" model next. Meaning that the 8th gen Celica will probably be available with either a 140hp 1ZZ engine or a 180hp 2ZZ engine, be front wheel drive, and will be sitting on the same chassis it is now. The only difference between the 7th and 8th gen Celica's is going to be the interior and exterior, which will look completely different. The 9th gen is when they will probably do a "redesign model", which is when the Celica could be released with different engine, turbo, AWD/RWD or whatever. It doesn't make finantial sense to completely redesign a car every 5 years, and Toyota is in the business of making money. Thats my prediction of what is in store for us with the next Celica.

the face lift was the 2003 model. hense the new front end and intereior color. as far as the chassis being the smae teh 5th gen was different than the 6th gen and the 7th diff then the 6th. so most likely you will see the 2005 model at the tokyo auto show.

new supra?
weren't they done with the supra a couple of years ago?
they were saying toyota might go down hill in the JGTC (japan gran touring championshipt) because of the discontinued supra. they can't race a car that isn't open to the public, the same models have to be available for purchase.
i guess they're making a new one...but it won't be "supra".

i do not think you will see anything for a little while... I think around the new year maybe... but I am not sure... or at one of those BIG auto show's around places that have ALL next gen or redesigned cars there...and i don't know when one of those will be happening... just gotta wait and don't worry about it.

Supposedly the new redesign will be a 2005 model, but will be on your lot in Sept or Oct of 2004, as a 2005 model. New models are usually for the next year, so all cars released in 2003 will be 2004, in theory.

If they are going to have both a Supra and Celica model, the Celica probably will stay an I-4, in my estimation. Two things I hope for...
1) The new Supra won't be $45k like it had been before. Keep it around the price of the Evo's and STI's!
2) The new Celica should keep it's current lightweight/high rev profile. Screw the V6! Lotus bought GTS Celica engines for the Elise and retuned them to actually have torque and HP at lower engine speeds... I think that Toyota needs to do the same. Then perhaps drop in a Turbo to reach around 225HP, keep it a FWD for weight.

It takes about 5-6 years before a car gets completely redesigned. So if the celly debuted in 1999/2000, expect another redesign by 2K5/2K6 if they decide to keep producing them.

sorry for bringing this up again if i were u, i would rather wait. uve been waiting for this long, and if you can afford a new one, wait for 3-4 months for official release of celica (they release it in april). if you like it, wait four more months and get the new one. it will be well worth it. ull probably be the first one to buy it. i know it will be too expensive when it just comes out, but the 8 months that you have been waiting for the car, you would save money and put more down which will help out ur monthly payments. i wish i had the money to buy a new one, i wouldve waited for the new one. its still up to u!

No lets keep it alive as possible. This is one of the longest threads out there! Yeah, ok, well...can't say much about the next Celi 'till Toyota says something about the next Celi. DON'T trust an auto magazine (just trying to stir things up), trust the source. And be patient. Toyota won't release any info about a car until 2 or 3 months from its release.
