i DO NOT have a celica yet ... i might purchase one soon (until 2005 celica's out) HOWEVER ... im concernin IF gen 8 will be out soon ... i dun wanna buy older stuff / model if the newer one's better
nah man just get a 7th gen, the 8th gen is just a rumor, there in production and who knows wen they will launch. you mite have to wait till 05 to get it, not worth the wait but if you really want power. wait because i heard the new celi will be Turbo charged pushing a 2.4 litter and 230 bhp engine, so its ur call
I agree with sultan it is very unlikely there will be an 8th Gen Celica Ive heard all kinds of rumors so im not sure whats true ive heard this is the last year for the celica.
if the 8th gen comes to the states it will only be for one year. celi sales are down do to civics, cavilers, focus, and neons. However they will still be sold in japan, so parts Performance parts wont be a problem. That 230 hp Turboed engine however, is probably not likly. I work with the trd divison for a year, and toyota said that they would never overpower a car again, (i site the supra as the last really fast toyota, and that cost $45,000). either way gen 7 gts' are sweet, but the gen 8 will be a little more rare.

since 05 should be out soon i dun mind to wait a while long and get use to my manual shiftin (noob ) ~ so i won't damage my celica's m/t transmittion ~ well if 05 is gen 8 ... GREAT ~ if not then gen 7th's still good ~
Rumors I have heard, are that the new Scion tC will replace the Celica. Could be wrong though.
The TC is not the replacement for the celica...scion and toyota are two different brands (though both owned by toyota). Its just the timing is all. They wouldnt replace a car with as much history as the celica...just as they didnt replace the supra with something else.
when i went to the toyota dealership to test out the new scion xb, the dealer said that the celica's are in their last years...and they are soon gonna cut the line, so i say better save those 7th gen celica's because they're gonna be rare collectables...lmao.
rumors are rumors...i do kno that to the best of my knowledge.. nothin has been said officially about the celica. if the do discontinue celicas... we wont loose as much value as we normally would,, right?
i heard that the 8 gens are being made but they wont make it to the us due to sales slumps
the only reason why the sales have slumped is one becuase Toyota hasnt tried to market the celica any. i think that us celica owners have done more to market the celica as in doing stuff like making this site or going to car shows and showing off your celica to other import people
I went to a car show in socal this winter and a toyota rep said that they are making them, and a new body style but they didnt have the specs...I was also told that they will be out summer 05...Guess we will all have to see
first decide what ur looking for, the celica isnt a street drag car, so dont think ur getting one... its auto x and economy car... mods are endless, but they really wont get you that far... there are many more cars for much cheaper then can go much faster and have more possibiltys...
8th gen celica is a rumor. Highly highly unlikely it'll go in production. Perhaps in japan, but due to the poor sales the Celica makes in the States, probably no luck. A possibility is the Supercharged Scion Tc. That thing's a beast.

the president of toyota himself stated no Scion's are replacing any cars. the mr2 and celica will have future models that will most likely take their place if they are not here...well mr2 is gone...i think the celica will be gone too till toyota has another car.

You ever see the Toyota Commercials? I have yet to see a celica in em!
Yah I know, they had that one commercial when it first came out with the planes, then the one with the slogen "it just looks fast" which is sad but true, and they complain about sales...I dont get it
i heard they are taking the front half of a supra, the back end of a viper and the engine from a toyota echo and making it into the 8th gen. trust me on this.

i'll trust you that you have nothing to back up that statement
haha no i just made that up being stupid. just my own way of making fun of all the "8th gen" threads. when i see and hear it officialy from toyota, then i will belive it. till then im not holding my breath on the 8th gen.

actually it was never a '8th gen thread' ~ it was just concerns before purchase of my first OWN car ... you know ... no regard on first car ~ make it as nice as possible and STAY NICE for a longer period of time ...
okay okay this shit is scary! haha hm.. but i deno are they going to discontinue the 7th generation of the celica in 2005? fuck... haha i gotta go get mine now!!!
I hope they kill off the celica, it'll make my car that much more desireable for resale down the road, besides, the whole underpowered toyota sports car thing is getting to be a pain in the butt.
I've been hearing it will see an 8th gen, but it may not come to the states, because as many have said, celica sales have been slumping lately (Well, duh! if you can get a WRX or an SRT-4 for the same money, I can see why...)
Toyota needs to get a clue on the whole "Pseudo-performance car" thing and make a car that has a bit more than an adequate engine.
Remember the Nissan Spec V, has less HP than a celica GTS, just recently, they've been putting out cars like the maxima, 350Z, etc.
Mazda has been going the same route as well. Mitsubishi puts V6 engines in the eclipse, and now the Lancer EVO is making a name for itself stateside.
Even the RSX-S is a better performer than the Celica GTS (albeit a thin line between the two Performance-wise). It seems as though Toyota has genuinely given up on real Performance cars.
The only thing Toyota has going for it right now? the Prius hybrid. It's getting the most press for toyota, and that's sad. As far as toyota is concerned, real Performance is a thing of the past, sad as it is to say, and the next time I consider a new car purchase, it probably won't be a toyota.
Celicas can hadle like a dream, they make decent power, not to mention look good, but if you're looking for a really fast car, you may want to consider another manufacturer.
The Celica is not a really fast car????????????????????? You are correct in pointing out its other great qualities but on this one you are wrong.
The Celica IS a fast car, but you must be an amazing driver to drive the car to its maximum potential.
An Aston Martin DB7 costs $160,000. The Celica GTS costs about $25,000 with $1500 worth of Performance mods.
The DB7 will do about 13.7 s @ 103.3 mph in the qtr piloted by a decent driver. The GTS can do 13.74 s @ 101.13 mph if driven by a top pro.
A Ferrari 456 GTA costs $260,000. A good Performance for the GTA would be 13.6 s @ 103 mph.
So you are mistaken by saying the celica is not a really fast car. The Celica is fast, and can hang with some of the most expensive exotics which have as many as 3 times the cylinders.
Here's a real life example to close on: A decent Performance for a Porsche 911 Carrera (non-turbo) is 14 s @ 102 mph. While I was driving through San Marino, CA on Huntington Drive just two days ago, a Porsche 911 Carrera (non-turbo) that I was following tried to take off on me from a light. I kept up all the way to 60 mph until he shut it down. At the next red light, I pull up to him on his right and a black honda civic coupe with rims pulls up on my right and smiles. The light turns green and although I keep gunning the gas and letting off, the Porsche doesn't want to go, and drives really slow. So I just hit 2nd and pull ahead of the Porsche and observing civic, thinking "rich Porsche guy doesn't want to risk losing to a Celica." LMAO at this point.
God help you if you still think the Celica is not that fast of a car. Put a Turbo and a great driver in the car: watch out world.
hum ... wantin my celica more and more ... i actually dun want them to change gen 8 ... change can be better ... but risky if it stays then my mod plans will work out the way it is now ~ no need for MORE RESEARCH on like other brands ... YEAH CELICA ~ !!
There will be no 8th generation celica, the rumors about the scion Tc replacing it are pretty much true. WHile it's not a direct replacement, the two cars are in direct competition with each other; and so the celica, with it's slow sales numbers, will be discontinued.

^dude, toyota hasn't released anything yet about the next supposed celica if it will be in the states or not. search about this topic and you'll discover your answers.
and NO, the fucking tC is not the replacement for the celica!!
I test drove the tC the other day. As with many sport compact cars i could barely fit in the driver seat. Being 6'5" while usually awesome, sucks when trying to buy a car. My celica on the other hand has plenty of room which surprises everyone. "If" the tC is suppossed to phase the celica out that is rediculous. The Celica is one of if not the best looking car in its price range.
