ok guys. heres the scoop. ive been posting a lot latley about my exhaust. ive got a 2002 gts with trd muffler. i complained about it not being loud enough and asked suggestions about removing my catalic converter or my resonator. so today i took it to the shop, decided to take out both and run a straight pipe through it. i finally get in and rev it up, and to my disapointment, it sounds VERY ricey. everyone tells me it sounds good but this is comming from some rice owners. has anyone else done this to their car? its loud, sounds really good except for the high pitch buzzing sound. it sounds like the muffler which is buzzing and i was thinking, would it sound better with a different muffler? maybe greddy? everyone tells me "theres no way a 1.8L is going to sound good, all of them sound like that." i refuse to accept this. i hate the sound of my exhaust now, im embarassed to drive it. im planning on putting back the cat and resonator if i dont get any good advice. i spent $85 to get this job done, now im gonna have to pay to get it fixed. big mistake frown PLEASE help me out guys.

hmmm...TRD is a nice exhaust but the main reason I didn't buy it was cause of it sound, wasn't loud enough. My bro has a Tundra and has a Bassani exhaust on it and took out the resonator in both tips. Sounds sooo nice, soo loud when under acceleration. But it has a nice sound cause it's a truck. So for you, I would say if it's got that ricy sound, don't go with that. I hate that sound, everyone I know who hears a Civic or some other old p.o.s. drive by says, "stupid ass car." My advice to you is to either get them put back in and keep the exhaust or buy another such as the Tanabe Super Racing Medallion. It also has the highest gains of performance out of most of them. Greddy had like 1-2 hp less than it. TRD had .2 higher, but the tanabe had the best sound. Go here...it's got the sounds and gains of a bunch of exhausts for GTS...

exactly, the tundra is a truck. way more than 1.8 liters. get a new muffler right? i need to know if getting a different muffler will get rid of that buzzing sound. someone told me "its comming from inside (my engine) so theres no way to change it unless i ported my cylinders to over 2 liters or something. those sound clips dont let you hear the exhaust with a straight pipe so they dont really do any good. any other suggestions?

I have a GReddy on my GT and the sound it has rumbles, I don't think that its TOO loud, but it definitely doesn't buzz, I think its great!
If you want loud, try out the Kazuma exhaust, supposed to be the loudest one, but I dunno if its high pitched or low pitched.

I have a APEXI n1 univ. muffler and I have a 2.5 inch mandrel bent downpipe, with a high flow race resonator..

When it idles, its deep, when your taking off, its kinda deep, and loud, when your in lift, it screams! you need to cover your ears.. and It doesnt have the buzzing sounds, just really loud when in high RPMS.

im going tomorrow to get it welded back on. anyone with greddy, when you bought it, was it just the muffler? does any exhaust come with a new catalic converter and/or resonator? i wanna try some things with my exhaust but they all cost money and take time. i have a feeling if i got a greddy or tanebe muffler, the buzzing would go away. i dont have the money or the time for this though, so i guess ill just go back to my stock pipes, keep my trd muffler tho. thanx for the help guys.

SHES BACK! im sooo happy, i got my cat and resonator put back on, check engine light kept on, so i disconnected the battery and reconnected it. hopefully itl stay off. if not, back to the shop! grin and he didnt charge me, which i was happy with. i still lost the $85 i spent putting the straight pipe on but oh well.. live and learn. message for all trd exhaust owners: dont try to make it louder. if you want loud, dont get trd... i learned the hard way.
