Does anyone drive a Celica with a tiptronic gearbox??? 6 speed i think they come as... if someone does have one, what do you think of it??? Have you been able to compare it to a manual???
Completely different topic... what do ya reckon of this ride??? I'm not to keen on the white rims on white. This car happens to have the tiptronic shift...
tiptronic = autotragic. The tiptronic is for peeps who cannot drive a stick, there is no comparison in driveability or Performance. Plus it's less expensive to get a stick to, less complex and easier to repair.
tiptronics come as 4speed standard automatic, i never saw a 6 speed tiptronic, that means the auto tranny has to b 6 speed. The largest tiptronic is a 5 speed.

wtf? where did you get this notion that tiptronic owners do not know how to drive stick i grew up in the philippines where 95% of cars are manual i learned how to drive stick when i was 10 its been a while since i drove 1 and iam kinda rusty at it. but i do know how to drive one. the only reason i bought a tiptronic celica is because i love that feature and when i bought it it would have taken me 6 months to get a manual special ordered and i didnt wanna wait that long. that said dont even try to think that way thats just stupid
Tiptronic is fun to drive but it still dosent compare to a manual though , and polykarb, i do know how to drive a stick very well might i add even though i have an auto celica
There is a tiptronic shiftt in my moms G35 and it sucks! I hate it. It's a 5 speed tiptronic, but when you make it shift up in gear it hesitates then shifts. It is nothing like driving a manual car.
Manual =
Tiptronic =
My car is gunna be 10x faster than yours...haha... I'm gunna buy like 10 of those speedchips! I figure if 1 gets me 20hp then 10 will get me 200hp!
never should have made an auto GTS, it gives the car a bad rap.
They could have made it a 5 or 6 speed auto, that would be respectable.
I half agree. I wish they would have made it a 5 or 6 speed auto, just to make it less of a dog. I am happy they made an automatic though, or I'd never have bought one.
At the point when I was car shopping, I wasn't really into the Performance scene. All I knew was that I drive 20k miles a year in LA traffic, wanted a car that looked nice, and was fun to drive. From now on I'm going with sticks... but at that point in time, the auto Celi was exactly what I was looking for.
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you
Triptronic is not that bad if used properly specially in luxury cars such as the BMW M3 that has a 6 speed gearbox SMG----> sequential manual gearing. This type of tranny will own any car since it shifts faster than any human driver. Close to the way I shift...lol
honestly my friend it sucks the only ass. you would think that it would be quicker off the line but its not. and it shifts with no prob but by the time you get it fast enough the other dude is already at the other end of the quarter mile
I don't know why so many ppl hate on automatics. I've you live in highly populated areas like i do (so. cal) you want and automatic because you are always running into traffic. And plus just because ppl buy a celica it doesn't mean that they all race them. I my self have an automatic gts and i'm going all show...why street race when we have heard all the consequences people get when they get caught. that's my two cents about why people should stop hating on automatics. People buy things because they like them just like when people buy mods that some people don't like they buy them because they like them not to satisfy the whole world.
I have the triptronic and it's not THAT fucking bad. Also, thanks, but I too know how to drive a stick, but as stated above in highly populated areas a manual is more of a hastle. It's fun the drive and shifts pretty quick since it's all electronic. It doesn't compare to a manual for Performance, but it's fast enough for me since I don't intend on going to a track just plan on showing it an giving it a little balls to back it up.
ha...tiptronic being slower than manual? ya, on the celi it does, on some other cars it's the other way around.
there is a 6spd tiptronic. the 7spd is ready to be produced.
manual is just more fun to drive. Performance wise, i wouldnt say it has advantage over autos tipts.
and im sure the auto celi will be as fast if we have one more gear or 2. just that we dont have a clutch to play with.
and by the way, where did you get the thought of ppl driving auto cant drive manual? you are totally wrong.
as tru_as has pointed out, he can, and i (drives an auto gts too) can drive a manual too. and the reason i bought an auto is because i didnt buy the car myself. my parents did. they didnt know better and bought an auto...
P.S. Im 100% sure GTS Tiptronic shifts faster than the G35 tiptronic. but still not as sensitive as true manuals.
the tiptronic we have is a great technology from toyota, just it needs a gear or two more...
toyota have a 6 spd tiptronic for their car named "Wish" i wish i can swap that tranny~
Newer ferarri's run on triptronic Because a computer can shift faster than a person...at least thats what they say.
Yup. There is some slow, junky car called the Enzo that isn't a stick.
Anyway, our cars tiptronic is awesome. It kicks the ass of the ones found on most cars. The problem isn't the shifting, it's the lack of gears. Two more and we'd be rollin.
BTW... I'm sure 95% of the people on this board who drive auto also are good with sticks (I am). It's either that they didn't have the option of manual, or they live in an area like LA with heavy traffic.

yeah that enzo sure is a real piece of shit Stupid triptronic too many people must not know how to drive a manual so now they have to make em triptronic.

yeah..let's not forget those dumbass Formula 1 drivers who use paddle shifting...if they were real men they should drive stick...lol
depends on whatever the person wants...tiptronic...manual..its all good...tiptronic seems like a kool little feature..especially if you wanan have a little fun and rev up those RPMS , but as for the traffic reason..i totally disagree..im stuck in NYC traffic every day..and i dont even think twice about having a stick care...comes as seocond nature. i also think stick keeps the driver more aware. Your always focusing instead of just putting your foot to the pedal. But thats probabyl jsut me cause im absent minded sometimes

You're comparing apples to oranges, Ferrari's to Toyota's.
Those two makes shouldn't even be used in the same sentence.
Any auto 4 banger is going to be slower than its manual counterpart. When you hit 8 cylinders though, then it gets interesting. Depends on what type of car, and how it's set up.

ok first of all "the tiptronic is for peeps who cannot drive a stick". Well i know how to drive dtick. the first car i learn how to drive was stick. i probably know how to drive better than you do. But yeah get stick, its much much faster than auto. and more fun.

And also, audi makes 6 speed tiptronic for their TT. And supposely its as fast as stick. many companies have been making 6 speed auto for while incase you didn't know. Not only that, more gear doesn't mean the car is faster...

LET JUST SAY, THE FORMULA 1 CARS ARE TIPTRONIC!!!!!!!!!! no more

oh ooook im not on-par with my autotragic tranny's. And i know that one more gear doesn't make the car faster, that's like saying that adding 400lbs of vynil on your car will make it go faster .
All i need is a stick and all is right within the world...
man you don't even know half the reason why the autos are slow! here we go again -less gears(6 gear to 4) -torque converter(gts is from is300, where those cars have more torque than celica, the toyota really mess this up) -longer shift -loss to the wheel hp(eventhough i keep up with gts stick on roll) -lower redline(8400 - 7800 rpm)
im pretty sure you didn't even thought about these factors
and are any of us gonna be owning an enzo or an f-1 car right now?...noooooo
So anyway you look at it, it's your choice of transmission when you buy your car. Plenty of my friends have auto's, and that's good for them, their car, their choice, their problem.

yeah that's the whole reason why i bought a 6-speed, so i don't loose the advantages that the car has. So don't bring it up.

but who are you going to race with your slow @$$ car dont be jealous read my sig
well my car has the tiptronic shift and i love it. i also know how to drive manual, and i know that manual is way faster than the tiptronic. it is just nice to have that shifting there when you need it in traffic to speed up, just shift down a gear or two. not the best for racing but i think its fine for people who dont want the hassle of drivin a stick in everyday stop and go traffic but want the ability to have a feel that you have control of the gears. if i had the chance to go back and get a 6spd manual i would def. do it. but the sportshift is still fast in its own right.

Yeah, automatics are slow. In my 6th gen auto, I lonngggg for even a tiptronic shifter. But until then, I have to force the gear shift through clever use of the gas pedal- and as a consequence, I shift faster than a tiptronic (where for some reason, there's like a 3 second delay
I didn't get a stick, because I drive up and down socal on my way to work, etc etc. A good deal of my life is spent in traffic.. while on the phone. While holding a drink. etc etc etc. I just dont have the hands needed to shift as well.
I do plan to shift in another car's transmission soon- and probably a tiptronic shifter too. I dont plan to get one of the crummy ones.. but it's gonna be a lot of money and a lot of work. Here's hoping.
