hey guys, i have Yokohamas that came with the car when i bought my Celica in 2001 in St. Louis. I went to Burt Toyota in Denver and they are saying i need to change my tires angry Dont the tires i get with stock GTS Rims should last me atleast 50 K. I am in a dilemma is the dealer bs'in? And secondly i havent used my stock rims last summer meaning for about 5k. miles, technically i used my stock tires for 25k miles. I dont feel that horrible driving my car...that i have to get my tires replaced. What you'll think?

It depends, if you drive like a grandma than they "could" last the life of the vehicle. But on the other hand drivin like hard ass, like me, they'll only last maybe 10-15k. if theres less then a 1/4 left on the tread then you might wanna look into some new ones

With the treadwear rating on the stock Yokohama's, I wouldn't expect them to last half that. In fact, I wouldn't even go by miles, otherwise, I would be at the cords before I got the expected miles. Look at the tread, thats what matters. You can also think of it this way, with less tread there will be less tread squirm and you will likely get the best dry traction now.

30k yea you need some new tires. Use the penny trick. Put a penny into the tire tread with lincons head first and if you can see to the end of his hair you need new tires. Cause you have less than 1/16 of an inch of tread.

I've noticed that on a Celica from my own experience and others here (just can't dig up the link) that the tires on a Celica will wear more than say a Kia, just for example. I went through my stock Michelin Pilot, and yes I had Michelin stock, and Pirelli's in 2-3 years. Completely worn down till no tread was showing, like slicks. I'm now on/off with dedicated snows and "performance tires". It's funny because I've driven more miles on the snow tires up till June or so and they seem to have no wear. My new tires I know won't last more than 15,000 miles because it shows already. A lot of fun though. 30,000 and you have at least 10,000 miles to go and get new tires so don't fret.

in response to ^^^ it really depends on how you drive it. My tires are very worn down with 10,000 miles on them. I did my penny test and they barely have enough tread but im trying to hold off until i get rims and tires.

Thanks guys for the input. Now just for knowledge if i do need to change tires...what kind of all season tires would you recommend. I have researched on the Pirelli and Yokohama AVS Sport...any input would be gladly appreciated grin
