I have had sqelling and squeaking brakes for a long time. they are the original brake that came with my GT. Has anyone else had this problem with there stock brakes? and if so what did you do about it, (besides get new brakes)?

you could use some brake cleaner as that gets rid of the brake dust quite a bit thumbsup

^ My dealer told me that it's normal. Since they don't use asbestos on brake pads anymore, todays brakes squeak. I got used to it by now...I just up the stereo grin

My GT does the same thing. I just had Toyota turn my rotors b/c the brakes were pulsing, and I thought that had something to do with the squeaking too, but it didn't fix it either. You can actually buy this glue that you put on the back of the pad when you slip it into the caliper, it holds the pad more secure within the rotor...somtimes that helps with the squeaking.

I still don't get how it squeaks when you are not pressing down on the brake pedal tho. It might be something else, are you sure that it is coming from the brakes??

Maybe you overtighten something?

I must have brought mine into the dealer a dozen times to have them clean the breaks. Always grinding and making high pitched scraping sounds. It is normal, but it aint good.

The braking system on the GT is way undersized, I heat mine up to the fade point regularly. Need some ventilated oversized disks or something.

I dunno but the brakes on my Auto GT is freaking great. I think that it is a lot better than the braking system in my GTS. The GTS is making funky noises, the GT is quiet as hell.

That squealing sound is your disk pad warped and ur calipers are scrathing it!... U have to take it to the shop and have them polish of those disks brakes for ya! and thats all!... thumbsup

I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT and just put new drums, rotors, semi metal shoes and pads. Now I have a front squeek and a bad rear brakes noise. I hate it , it is driving me crazy. I asked for ceramic and just found out they are not. My good looking car has 240,000,000 miles and runs great. The stereo does not block the noise. I'm a car chick and they seen me coming............F.....K Chevygirl68

Semimetallic brake pads are hard on rotors, wear them down and make noise.

It's best to buy OEM brake pads from Toyota dealer.

Akebono Brake Products: Trusted by Original Equipment Manufacturers Worldwide. Akebono's OEM customers include: General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi Motors, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru and Isuzu.

Search for Akebono pads to fit the GT. Their prices would be cheaper. Be careful, lots of fake parts in eBay and Amazon. Buy only from reputable sources.
