Celica Forums General Discussion Videos, Pictures, and Audio Clips Finished Hood Scoop lighting...

So after a few hours of splicing and sodering, I finally finished my LED hood scoop project. I must say I'm pretty pleased with how it all came out. Just wanted to see what you guys thought...

Looks good man, what kind of bulbs are you using for your DRL's?

I'm using the white 194s from http://www.superbrightleds.com
they work well, but they are a bit more white than in the picture. I had to over-expose the picture to get it to show the car at night, so everything came out brighter and more blue.

Yeah i'll get some pictures up of the wiring and stuff when I get home. There isn't much to see though; all the wiring is hidden. i ran it through that ruber piece that is between the hood and the plastics near the windshield. I don't have a switch yet, but its only a 3 volt LED so it just stays on all the time...

scottstepko: those are them, and just FYI; the bulbs in the picture are a lot more blue than in person... The White LEDs that I have are pretty white but almost like an HID white... there's a bit of purple or something in them, but they look cool...

scottstepko: mine are 5000 mcd at 20 viewing angle... If i got them again I would go with the 6000 mcd and the 30 angle... oh and if you use these leds they are only rated at like 3 volts or something so you are going to need a 470 Ohm (sounds like "olms") resistor... You can pick up a pack of 5 for a buck at radio shack, just tell them you need a 470 Ohm resistor... if you have and questions or anything just shoot me back or e-mail me at sstepko@knology.net

yeah no problem, they are the super white and they are more white in person. I took out the leds in the hood scoop last night and redid it with a neon tube... I think it looks better than with the leds. I took pictures of the whole process with my digital so i'll put up an install how-to if you want...

I would like to see the pictures with the neon tube. I thought of doing this a while ago but I couldn't find anyone that had installed a neon tube. Pics would be great!
