I will be converting replacing the engine in my GT automatic with a GTS engine and tranny. From what I can figure, I will need the engine, tranny, engine computer, shifter, clutch pedal and cables. Any experts out there? What else will I need?

you know some times oepel make me sick.
everytime someone says they want to swap a tranny or engine its always the same story jsut trade it in for a new one.
he got the gt for his reasons. maybe ther eis a reason he wants to keep this one its his choice. noone says why swap a motor in a honda when you can jstu trade. I say go for it it would cost way more than 3k for a trade adn if he can do the work he will knwo more about dissasembly adn working on his car than anyone on here woudl know

Listen, I hate to be rude but I am not here to discuss the merits of it. I am looking for info from someone who knows that they are talking about.
Timing chain $1500, AIC Valve $600 & I still have a beaten GT motor with 200,000 on it. for $3000 I can put in a motor with almost no mileage & have more horsepower and stick. Its worth the trouble. Swaping a motor and tranny is an 8 hour job. Converting to standard is the trick & the computer issues.
I figured out I need the cruise control computer as well. Standard & auto are different.

Your Auto has 200K on it? I say go for the conversion, it would be a pretty nice experience. The fact that it is still your car will make it feel 10x better than getting a different car. Good luck

trading in stuff with the dealership, you never get your value back...and it's always a loss. The dealerships are there to make money not to be a charity. The only way I use dealerships now is I just drive in to their bay and ask for hints/advice on how to fix stuff if I need it. They just call the tech over and he answers my questions. I hold them to Toyota's good reputation which includes customer service and after-sales support. If you have the ability and the time (not that long), keeping a car forever and swapping engines is the way to save thousands of dollars. And I don't have to worry about the Toyota brand going away anytime soon lol.

I suggest downloading the manual and bringing it with you to mark off on a checklist all the things you need.

I didn't know the celi's had a hydraulic clutch. Good, but that might be a little more work. I'll download the manual & see.
Ohh, shoot I didn't think the 2003's were drive by wire. It is a 2003 motor & tranny I am getting. What happens then? I will need the electronic gas pedal & a bunch of other junk?
Thank you for the info.

It probably got plowed over by a suburban. LOL
I am guessing that the proceedure for pulling a motor is unhook the drive axles, unbolt the motor, remove the power steering and air conditioning pump, unplug all the electrical & hoses, remove the hood & pull the motor from the top?

Thanks. I don't think its too bad. I have done a couple of 350's and a 305 before. They are a lot simpler as far as hookups go. But if you take the plastic off the inside of the engine compartment & look around the motor, there really isn't all that much there. Its not the worst motor I have seen for junk hooked to it.

Any experts out there? What else will I need? dude from experience, this is pain in the ass and money job. I have gts auto and was trying to convert it into stick. And the price i got for that was 2000$ at toysports.com. New engine is going to cost you at least 3000$. the parts you need. shifter clutch flywheel 2zzt321 engine 2zzt321 tranny(good luck finding these two) brake master cylinder clutch cylinder shifter cable axle ecu nuts and volt and much more... I mean don't get me wrong i would do it anyday. I just don't have enough money for that. And not only that if you are spending that muich you mind as well get a Turbo or S/C. it will be faster. Hearing from lot of people, after tranny swap is done, you will have lot of problems with your car. but good luck

brake master cylinder because we have hydraulic clutches that run on brake fluid, and it's all connected. If you can get it cheap from the junkyard like you say, go for it. Haggle them and have them name a set price for all the parts you need for your tranny and engine swap. offer to give them your old parts and 200k engine hehe. I mean it's a junkyard celica...so don't let them charge you more than $1500 for everything...I mean getting all this stuff new from the dealership would cost you ten times as much.

I got an idea for the exhaust. They sell electric controlled valves for exhaust. I want to set one up with a switch on the dash. When you need it, you hit the switch and your running straight pipe from the headers to the road. Lots of flow for real cheap!

yup, exhaust control valves whether electric or manual cable are awesome!!! I have the manual cable type, and I love going in to race mode at a second's notice, and then stealth mode driving around the city.

I noticed "engine mount", but I assume you'll be getting more than one. While you're at it, since you get all you want for 3k, you may as well pick up the rear disc brakes and calipers since you'll need it anyway to stop the more powerful 2zz. Someone mentioned axle (Jae?) but whether or not you need it, I say take it since you may break an axle off the line if you decide to put a Turbo in your car later on.

Why not just BUY a GTS in the first place instead of sinking more money into a GT.

I got a price to change my 1zz auto to a stick. $3500 for everything. I haven't decided if its worth it. However, I do want a stick really bad. I was considering trading in, but look at my mods. So much shit to convert over!!

$3500 is too much. You can get a 2ZZ motor & tranny with everything you need for that money.

did you blow the engine or something in the GT? because im not seeing this as a good mod unless you did that. if it still works a trade in and the money you are spending on this mod should get you a GTS

^^^^ A trade in will be more expensive. You have to make another down payment, your payments will go up, and you have to start your loan all over again. You can get everything you need to do the install for a little more than the down payment!
Besides some people have work in their car. Who wants to convert all of their shit over. After you mod your car, it become part of you.

A few guys have the valves on their big blocks, they shure sound neat straight exhausting to the road with blue flames and all. I'm picking up a new front engine mount for my GTS. Unless you have done the energy suspension front mount mod, you'll tend to break the front mount on launches with the GTS and an upgraded clutch. It's always a good thing having extra mounts around. Just take whatever you can possibly need if it's all for one price.

Why would I need those? I sure as hell you aren't the one doing this install, because if you have to come here and ask what you need to buy for the install, then you have no idea what you are doing.

hey come on guys, be nice. some people have no fear of tackling new tasks...he just happens to be one of them and has the confidence in himself to figure things out. He says he's done engine swaps before on other cars which have more junk connected to them, so I believe he can do it. And I'm sure there's more than one GTS in Canada which he can copy if he needs a visual reference other than the manual.

Its funny how a bunch of yas can't justify an engine swap and say its too much trouble when some of you have spent thousands on cosmetic upgrades that don't do a thing for your car.
Just because you are afraid to get dirty and work on a motor, doesn't me I am.
