4 words: Total waste of money

think before you buy you look like am impulse shopper now tongue smile should have gotten a GTS in the first place..
and the best to do now is if you want a gts just trade in
y u're GT and spend the extra 3500 from the engine on the extra money you need to get a gts.. but hey I'm propably just stupid or something

^^^^ you are stupid or something. There are several reasons why someone might not have gotten the GTS is in the first place.

Anyway, if he has the money now and wants to do the swap, why shouldn't he. Maybe he wants to do that instead of rims and a body kit. He's fortunate enouph to know how to do it, so why don't encourage his instead of flaming him.

^^ not a TOTAL waste of money...if you tour your car this is an EXCELLENT show mod. engine swaps and tranny swaps often = lots of points.

also, you can still save money on insurance. a celica gt usually has a lower rate than a honda civic..while a celica gts has a much higher rate (insurance as far as the CAR is determined by the VIN #...and since his VIN # will obvioulsy not be changing he will still be quoted as having an 'auto celica gt'--which will save $$ over time. (of course, this will still be more expensive than just buying a manaul gts...this is just a point to let you know that the real cost--over time--of the swap will not be as high as you initially think)

also, another reason one may want to do swaps instead of just buying a new car is if that someone has already invested a lot of time and $$ into the car...if his car is personally customized then it doesn't make sense to just go out and buy a new car--all that time and $$ would have been gone to waste.

just a few things to think about thumbsup

ALL In canadian dollars (new cars):

40,000 GTS
30,000 GT
------
10,000 Diff
-3,000 Motor
------
7,000
======

I don't see where just buying a GTS would be cheaper.

My car has 200,000KM on it, the trade in value would be about $6,000; a new GTS is $40,000. You do the math. For $3,000 I get a GTS motor & tranny and probably get another 200,000KM out of the car.

if you are confident in completing this project go for it, dont listen to the haters cause either they dont understand much about the car, or how to work on it or dont have the $ to do this themselves. A complicated motor swap is challenging and very rewarding when done, so good luck and be sure to have lots of help thumbsup

and DEFINATELY be sure to post up pics (in progress if you can) as well as an EXACT finish price (in place of an estimate).

this way we can be able to better help future members when discussing this thumbsup

Thanks guys. I am sure it will go smooth. Its not like I am trying to install an H22 in a Toyota. Although, I do expect to learn a lot about my Toyota in the process.

you'll need the GTS gauge face to reflect your new redline in the tach.

The speedometer is also different. you will need to recalibrate the speedometer and possibly the tach.

good luck thumbsup

Yes, well that's what people have made it out to be by saying it's too much trouble AND costs too much. Time is money... It makes economic sense IF you have the skills to do it yourself because the TIME of potential lost wages involved certainly will not exceed the cost of trading it in. It will cost ten times more to trade in and if you make $200/hr good for you, but most people don't. Do you understand, or must I say it one more time?

I get my kicks on EC.
