i've got a '92 celica gt. when i'm driving and slow down, and don't downshift, the engine speed slows to about 1,000 rpm, and when i hit the gas there's a wickid rattle that comes from the engine. the rattle continues to about 2,000 rpm then the engine is smooth. this happens in all gears. what is it? any suggestions?

I have the same problem in my GTS. I thought it could be knocking and pinging, so i put 91 and it stopped for awhile, but now its doing it again. So i dont know what it could be.

Disco Dave You are "lugging" the engine, all manual trans cars will do that when your in too high of a gear.

GearshiftX you got a case of valve clatter, Get them adjusted and it will prolly cease unless the lifters are too far worn.
