it was 89.99 at Jcwhitney.com
I got their e-mail newsletter, they are having a sale on ALL their radar detectors made by cobra, so I thought I'd Jump on one this morning. They also are having a sale on ignitions smile :drools: at the MSD Ignition kit, anyways, the cheapest one they have is a cobra 5-band for 59.99 and then they go up by $30 from there for like 7 different models, so you can always find what you need.
I'm going to be doing a mod for my dash, I'm going to be taking out the original clock in the center console and i'm going to make a housing up there to put in my radar detector and Fiberglass it into there and then splice it into the cigarette lighter wiring. my friend is going to help me do it, hopefully it comes out nice smile

.. How is your radar detector going to detect if you stick it in the housing? lol smile

You can do that with the V1- where it has several different remote add ons, but a radar detector requires line of sight to work best.

Tib's cant go fast, that's why his "works fine". It's not going to work, your going to make your car ugly.

And to the retard saying he circled a car, and the radar didnt go off... It's a RADAR DETECTOR, NOT A COP DETECTOR. COPS DONT DRIVE WITH THEIR RADAR ON 24/7.

And to the retard saying he went to a corner and drove by cops checking for speeders... COPS CAN TELL IF YOUR SPEEDING BY EYE, THEN POINT THE RADAR AT YOU. If he knows your not speeding, he's not going to waste his time. Plus, why alert other drivers with radar detectors that their are checking..

Come on guys, let's use our brains here.

I'm weary of these new 11 band radar detectors. I heard stories from a friend of a close friend that his detector would go off every time he passed a WalMart on the freeway. rofl

I'm wondering AznClubRSX, if the woman voice is getting you off, what the hell kinda women live in Maryland? I'm just playing. grin

Sancho, that happens with almost any radar detector. The Valentine one however, has arrows to show you were the radar alert is coming from.- if it's directly to yoru sides, you can safely ignore it usually

Maybe in the all in one package. But I can build the valentine one unit into the dash while having extensions in the front bumper and the back bumper for the best coverage.

On the Passport x50, what's the difference between red and blue. Why the price difference? Is it color preference? idunno

Err, then take it up in court man; get some professors from the local university to lecture the courtroom on radar waves; you can't get an accurate reading from the side so properly taught cops won't radar from there- and if they do, then you can get off on the fact that the cop obviously wasn't properly trained.

Plus, the band that automatic doors are in is a band that no cop uses anymore- you even have the option of turning it off.

congratulations on wasting your money!

if you were going to invest in a radar detector, you should've went with the valentine one or escort. but if you were REALLY smart, you would do the logical thing and NOT SPEED.

I have this exact same model...it works great...you'll love the Intelli-Mute...I set mine at 2k RPM...so no annoying blips when I am traveling slow...the saftey allert actually works tooo (previous detector didn't work worth a shit excpet a cheap radio shack detector, which worked once)...I had this go off last Wednesday when a Vol Fireman in a Subruban went by...the Safety Alert is Pretty damn loud too...

...waste of money... I think not, it saved my ass and the truck I was racing (I give you that's not its intended use but nevertheless), alerted me of cops ahead pulsing radar on vehicles .5 miles from me in traffic (signal strength was 1=weak)...it's simply a tool used to "detect a frequency range or laser wave length" depends on the person using it and thier drving habbits...I like to drive fast (piss off if you dont like it)...I'll take an electronic advantage along with my common sense, experience, and skills...over no advantage at all.

and yes Valentines are great, but costly...in my opionion not worth the extra flow...but if I'm correct they also offer a "pay your ticket" warranty...which makes them some what costlier...

God, so many stupid posts on one thread. I shall entertain myself by responding to them.

1) Who wanted to build the detector into the dash?! The pickup eye on the unit has to be in the radar's line of sight to work. That's dumber than the people who put it on their center console or passenger seat. rolleyes

2) Who said their detector sucked because he drove by a cop (who was moving?!) and didn't have it go off? The cop has to have his radar gun out for the detector to work! If the cop is driving, he can't use his radar. wtf

3) Yes, the Cobra units aren't as good as the Valentine or Escort ones. However, they do work. I have a Cobra that I use solely for long road trips (ie Vegas) and it works fine. I could have got a better model that would give me a more accurate warning, but for my use it's fine.

4) Yes, it'd be smarter to simply not speed. But get real. EVERYONE speeds. The sad part is that the worst offenders aren't usually the ones who get caught. I've had more friends nailed by speed traps for doing 75 in a 65 than you can count. At the same time, I have friends who drive 95 all the time and never get busted. Just because you have a radar detector doesn't mean you drive like a maniac, it just means you drive like 99% of the people on the road and don't want to get singled out and ticketed.

alright jack off...did I not say that was not its "intend use but nevertheless"...SMD...why dont you go to the racing forum and preach there...I know that shit's dangerous...Thank you for pointing out the obvious laughsilly Now have a coke and a smile...and enjoy life. I do commend your solid stance that speed is bad...I agree...but we all have our faults...mine, a silly race and ocasional speeding with the flow of traffic...you should have that temper checked though...life much more difficult when you are easily angred...trust me, I know.

fusiOn is a cop!!!! nothing at all listed in profile, Just harassing us speed demons like a good angel...hahaha...he/she must be a cop!!!!! He/she certainly does not own a celica b/c I don't know any celica owner who stays at or below the posted speed limit 100% of the time. If he doesn't, he/she is simply a hippocrite. If he/she does, then he/she belongs in some kind of museum.

Radar detectors are legal in most states. Radar Jammers are absolutely ILLEGAL.

I heard from Escort that radar detectors are good not only because they help us avoid the law, but because they remind us to slow down. If there were more cops and more radar use, people with radar detectors are less likely to speed, which is better than those without who constantly speed. Thats why they are still legal here in the US.

We all speed. We can't always go the speed limit, even Fusion. Some police actually like them because they know that people are going to speed anyway, but slow down when they know theres police around, especially when they go off more frequently. Its a good reminder.

Waste of money? No. Because you never know when you're gonna take a B for something you didn't mean to do. thumbsup

The cop has to have the gun aimed in your relative direction, and have the trigger pulled for a read. 360 degree coverage just means it checks radar coming at you from all sides of your vehicle. If the cop is pointing the radar at cars coming the opposite direction like you said, it must have been pointed away from you.

congratulations on wasting your money!

if you were going to invest in a radar detector, you should've went with the valentine one or escort. but if you were REALLY smart, you would do the logical thing and NOT SPEED.

fusiOn is a cop!!!! nothing at all listed in profile, Just harassing us speed demons like a good angel...hahaha...he/she must be a cop!!!!! He/she certainly does not own a celica b/c I don't know any celica owner who stays at or below the posted speed limit 100% of the time. If he doesn't, he/she is simply a hippocrite. If he/she does, then he/she belongs in some kind of museum.

yeah i dont own a celica. rolleyes and i belong in a museum?? oh man..how lame can you get. then you proceed to form a conclusion from my profile. stupid e-tard. just save yourself the embarassment and stop posting stupid things.
