So i am thinking about getting my windows tinted black and ripping off the mirror tint that the previous owner put on... I don't wanna have to pay 20 or 30 bucks to have the old tint removed by the people doing it so can i rip it off myself? Also if so any special tools or chemicals needed?

Honestly, I think it's just going to be a real pain in the ass, it's going to make one hell of a mess, and you'll probably spend $15 bucks on supplies. Do youself a favor, spend the cash, & let the pros handle it. Drop off your car, come back in a couple hours and it's done, silver gone, black done.

You'll thank me in the long run.

He's right. I've stripped it before with a razor blade, and soapy water, and it was a hell of a mess and a pain.

If you have a steamer then you can take it off pretty easy... takes about 30 min a window.

I heard the back window is hard to take off because of the rear defroster things.. so you have to use some speical chemical or let it sit or something..? ... I would like the pro's do it

i've done it before and its a piece of cake!! All you do is get a blade and pull from side to side and spray water every so often to make it a little easier. you have to go slow or you will have that glue all over but not to worry. Rubbing alcohol does the trick. i personally wouldn't spend 20 bucks for something that i can do myself.

if you don't have a steamer, just let the place do it. A steamer makes it pretty easy, of course it all depends on the quality of film used too.

USE WINDEX! The amonia in the windex breaks the glue down. And yes, use a razor blade.

no you can pull it off yourself...

it's not hard, we have done it at toyota...

just get it started with a razor blade and pull it off...
then use some window cleaner containing ammmonia with type 00 steel wool and you'll be fine.

hey drkramm who said anything about using the razor blade all the way through. the razor is just to get it up off the window in the beginning.

I used a little bit of baby shampoo mixed with water and a razor blade, it came right off in one big piece, with no sticky mess.

every custom shop has their specialty, including window tinting places. i'm sure their results will yield the best appearance and they'll do it with the most efficiency.

hey, they'd probably include it with the total package price anyways. a good shop should take pride in their work and do it as a courtesy.
