Alright guys, I have an auto GT, so needless to say, I'm not going anywhere, hehe, but I wanted to beef up my brake system. Right now, my brakes kind of seem a little "ehhh". So I wanted to know how I could do that in an affordable way?? I already got the brake pads down, so I was wondering what else?? What would be the best kind of rotor for daily driving?? slotted?? cross drilled?? both?? what's a good/reliable/cheap brand...I don't want any 2000 buck big brake kit, but what else?? brake lines?? what kind?? new calipers?? really necessary?? what would be a nice cheap good looking, solid, system?? all replies are appreciated.

if your only talking about your front discs (since the celica gt uses drums for the rear) then you can either get slotted or vented (you can get both but this weakens the rotor and makes it more susceptible to warping). slotted rotors will help you stop a little faster but it won't be significant. vented rotors just help your rotors cool faster to prevent warping under heavy, constant braking.

a better way is to just upgrade your brake pads. trd makes a set of brake pads that will help you stop faster..but they are about $110 for a set. 'green pads' also stop better over stock and are also much cheaper..you can buy them from www.tirerack.com [tirerack.com] i beleive. try to stay away from racing brake pads because even though they stop better than any other types of pads they screech like crazy.

also, $300 is the quoted price on changing your rear drums into the celica gts disc brake...a pretty good conversion for not a very high price

hope this helps thumbsup

^^ slotted and vented rotors also help reduce 'brake fade' (their main purpose)...sorry for leaving out the obvious. rice

straight from toyota. Thats what TRD stated
on car and drivers Boost. They showed the
estimated cost of it being $300 on there
supercharged gt but i doubt thats since
they probabley got all there parts at cost.

^^ that could be, but it shouldn't.

the estimated costs quoted in media should show the msrp's of the products...NOT particularly the price the user actually purchased it for. but you never know.

I've talked to several dealers, and they tell me to convert GT drums to GTS discs will cost in the range of $1200-1500. There is an issue with the parking brake.

^^ crbn blu is right...the parking brake set up has to be altered therefore making it a huge operation...however, that's way more than I need... the front discs are sufficient for my black stallions 140 hp...hahaha, but I have a question...are the 2000 front disc brakes the same as the 2002?? would they be the same aftermarket part?? and does anyone know of any other place I could get crossdrilled/slotted rotors other than tirerack??
