Well last week there was serious flooding in Jersey and my car got messed up. There is mud, water and oil in the car. It is leaking oil mixed with mud and water from the engine. I also noticed the same thing in the dipstick. Right now my car's at Arty's (trdcelica13) house. I had it towed over there. Anyway, the good news is that I have full coverage insurance and my insurance is going to cover repairs to the car. All I have to pay is my Comp deductible of $500.The car was in about 14 inches of water. The interior carpet is soaked. What's the worse that could be wrong with my baby and even though I'm not going to have to pay for it, how much will it cost to get it right and how long may I be without a car? Collision Max in PA works directly with State Farm and should be picking up the car sometime this week.

Total that car.

How long was the car sitting in the water for?

There is going to be some SERIOUS work that needs to be done to the interior, not only to replace the carpet (if need be) but to also get the smell out.

Does the electrical system seem to function correctly? If not, that will hurt also. The engine will have to be dried out, and perhaps the alternator will need to be replaced? Depends if it got hit or not.


You should get your car back in a lot better of condition that it used to be though.

True dat. But that will have to be up to the insurance company, and I doubt that they have even looked at the car yet, but that is probably something they will do, depending on how much the car is worth.

^^^^yeah, your car is FUCKED bigtime!!!! waterlocked the engine, drowned the transmission, probably got water on most of the suspension bushings...your car is messed up bigtime...at the very least you are going to have to have an entire new engine and tranny put in, as well as the secondary sensors and harnesses that go with it...just yikes...how'd you go about getting it in that much water bTW???

plus your wheel bearings will need to be either replaced or repacked...I could prob sit here and write a list sooooo long. Brakes, pads, tranny...

if the carpet is wet, the electrical system got fucked, there is wiring under the carpeting, connectors really close to it as well.

Also, water probably got down into the engine, exhaust system, etc.

Didn't you see the flood coming, or was it a flash flood?

get a new car man, it's gonna cost a lot out of the insurance company's wallet and in yours. It is not worth the repairs.

Seriously though if your car was in 14 inches of water with that flash flood I would try to get it totalled. It's almost never gonna be the same.

So many things need to be checked and repaired or replaced that it's not worth the hassle of taking a risk.

ouch...flash flood!!! holy garbage!!!...yeah, see if they will total it, and give you money for the diminshed value...that should go pretty well toward the new car...

The car was sitting in water for about 4 hours before I got triple A to actually get over there. The extensive wait time was due to the fact that triple A was serving other customers in my area. I must have counted about 25 tow trucks, in the area of Camden and Cherry Hill and that's no exaggeration.

In reference to totalling the car, that will be up to the insurance company. They haven't seen the car yet. I spoke to the claims office today and set everything up. They should be towing it sometime this week.

I definitely didn't see the flood coming. I didn't even know that area flooded. There has been heavy rain and that road has never been flooded before. This shit was crazy and unexpected.

Some of you are saying get a new car but I don't know if I can even make a suggestion to the insurance company. I think it's all up to them. I have never had to file a claim before. This is my first time. I'm only learning now how all of this works. So I guess it will be up to the insurance company to decide whether to repair the car or get me a new one.

BTW, if they get me a new one, will it be a 2000 like I had or is it possible for them to get me something else.

Anyway, I'll fill you guys in on any later developments.
