I'm gonna be making an underpanel for my Celi from 20 gauge steel & I'm just looking to see if you guys would be interested in buying one for yourself. I'm not gonna do a C-ONE style panel like people have tried to do in the past 'cuz you have to remove the whole panel everytime you wanna change the oil. So I'm gonna make it like OEM in two sections. The "white" outlined section will be removable so you can have access to the oil filter. Thus eliminating having to remove the whole panel What I haven't decided is do you guys want the "black" outlined parts also made so that it'll cover the side of the engine? I'm gonna be working on it on my spare time, so don't expect a final product over nite, but I should have a prototype by the end of the month and then we'll go from there.

i agree. a lightweight aluminum underpanel at a good price would probably make somebpdy a pretty penny. you should also figure out a way to work around a CAI so that water doesn't splash through the space you cut out for it. know what i mean? make it clean...but yeah, the black parts circled should be included. make it as close to stock as possible. i would be interested if it's a good price!

this should be interesting. you can make a rubber attachment that goes around the CAI pipe so that it protects it from water.

Regardless, take measurements and post them here. No one has done that yet.

The pieces are gonna get cut tomorrow, but I won't get around to test fit them until Saturday, but I'll post pics when the pieces are cut.

Screw aluminum...try titanium. Or maybe carbon fiber! Or maybe, go to the NASA space center and steel pieces of there space shuttle.

Honestly, does anyone even know what 20 gauge steel weighs!!!!!! NEXT TO NOTHING! Plus, you would have to make the aluminum one thicker than the steel to compensate for strength. I bet it weighs less than a pound...

ok..em i am a steel salesman. NO ONE is going to tell me about steel on this site..unless you have a degree on metalergy (<--sp??) and a 3ft x 3ft sheet of 20 gauge galvanized steel wieghs 15 pounds. thats probably not all of the steel that would be used for the underpannel, but i bet all of our engine plastics and underpanel dont weight 15 ounds...less than one pound???? think it over again my friend..maybe 30 gauge steel thats paper thick..but 20 gauge is no chump..you cant even bend 2o gauge mild steel with one hand...

oh and btw..i know my spelling sucked balls up there, but everything i said is true..here is your theoretical wieght equation... width x length divided by 144 x (for 20 gauge) 1.65625. i can calculate the the weight of any gauge steel you might need venom. its a good idea..especically if you can work something out for the cai ppl. im not really interested in buying your pan..but very interested in how its going to turn out..good luck

there is no way that a 3x3 sheet of 20 gauge steel weighs 15 lbs... 20 gauge steel is like... less than 1/16th inch thick! I sure as hell could bend that with my hands. Now, I am not to sure about galvanized steel...that might weigh more than stainless. Ok, screw this I just found a filing cabinet that has a side that is 2x4 in 20 gauge steel. I am going to cut it up just to prove you wrong. BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

well the same gauge steel for different uses can have a different hardness to it. some 20 ga steel is definitly bendable..not easily by hand..but possible..either way hard or not it weighs the same..20 gauge steel is anywhere from .035-.0436 inches thick..thicker than 1/8 thick...30 gauge steel is .0127-.0187..about an 1/8 thick..so i dont really know what 20 gauge your talking about..but these measurments are AISI tolerance ranges...kinda indesputable..

a 3 ft x 3ft sheet of 30 gauge weighs 6 lbs.(same formula except for the lbs.per sq foot (.65625 instead of 1.65625) i am using galvanized because i imagine he would use something that wouldnt rust..hot rolled steel isnt even made that thin and cold rolled would rust so bad it would fall apart in a couple months (30 gauge) . i dont really deal with stainless..but stainless is much more expensive than galvanized steel. galvanized steel is going for about 50 cents a pound in raw form (coil form) while stainless is well over a dollar a pound. i was just thinking about keeping cost down

Ok this is math... if an inch is made up of 16mm and you say that 20 gauge steel is .035-.0436 then that is MUCH smaller than 1/10th of an inch. In fact, in order for it to be about 1/8th of an inch thick it would have to be .125 of an inch in thickness...not .035... Last time I checked .035 is smaller than .125. So, using this... 0.0625 would be 1/16th of an inch. which is TWICE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THE THICKNESS OF 20 GAUGE STEEL. You suck as a steel salesman.

and yeah 11 ga is way thick...i was callin customers while typin..thats what i get..but my wieght are accurate

i basically moved the decimal over on the 30 gauge...1/8 thick steel in a 3 x 3 piece would wiegh 45 pounds..lol

^^simple mistake caused by multitasking..wont happen again..but either way...1 sq foot of 20 gauge steel wieghs over a pound...so it is kinda heavy

I just never pictures 20 gauge that thick... Hmm. I mean, you look at 20 gauge wire and it is SOO tiny. However, You are around steel a lot more than I am.
