Celica Forums General Discussion General Help with a dealer trying to screw me outta warranty work!

Allright I took my car to a dealer down here in NC to get my A/C fixed, and right off the bat he gave me shit about my Ac autotechnic overlays, saying that since I removed the instrument cluster, I may have rolled back the odometer and therefore voids the warranty. I argued him outta that idea and he then sent the car back. Well they kept it all damn night and he just called, and said the reason my A/C wasnt working sometimes is because the AC amplifier from behind the instrument cluster ??!! was unplugged. How the hell could it be unplugged considering its only two plugs and it works off and on, and id imagine if the whole thing was unplugged, it would cause a lot more problems. He wants me to pay 150 bucks for the work on the car, saying that since it was because of the instrument cluster work, it voided the warranty. I want to know if there is actually one back there? I highly doubt it, and if anyone can recommend good points i can argue with this asshole about.

i would try D.I.Y, if a "Certifited Toyota Mechanic" said that. Or take it to an A/C place if they try to screw you over more.

That sure sounds fubar to me.

But if he's right, then yah you will have to pay for the labour.

It is really back there.

Those two wires that plug into the back of your instrument cluster connect to the combination meter. A LOT OF STUFF is contained inside of the combination meter such as controls for your AC, ABS, Headlights, Airbags, and pretty much every thing electrical. You could have damaged the circuit while you had the cluster out.

Just recently I installed an alternator pulley, and somehow, my AC amplifier blew out. I have no clue why, but it did. It most likely wasn't caused by you tampering with the instrument cluster, but it could have been. I'd take your gauges out, and just leave your factory ones in and take it to another dealership. That should work. Maybe.

Well I lost the argument to the dealer, because TECHNICALLY, my aftermarket part did cause the failure. For anyone putting on gauges, remember to push them damn connectors in there fucking TIZITE. Anyone planning on going to a dealer, make sure they take the gauges off, or automatically they'll say you tried to roll the odometer. Bastards
