Guys, i've been looking to buy a 2000 GTS for the longest time now, and i've found some decent prices in my area (around $10k) but i found a woman in london who is selling her 2003 GTS 6 Speed for $8,000. There would normally be no problem with this, but she insists on a western union deposit of $2,000, then she would pay for the shipping of the car over to the states. She says the only reason she is selling the car so damn cheap is her daughter recently had a kidney transplant, and she simply needs the cash.

My only concern is that direct western union deposit...any thoughts?

Don't do it man. Western Union is not traceable. I was trying to purchase a motorcycle on ebay for about 6 months and there were all these "great" prices on 2003 and 2004 R1s and R6s. But they all required Western Union deposits and they all were somehwere in Europe. Anyway, to make a long story short, they were all scammers. Don't do it. If you go on ebay, they strongly advise against doing business with anyone who demands payment by Western Union etc. Ask her if you can pay her via paypal and see what she says. Or if not that, a legit escrow service. I don't want you to be scammed. thumbsup

I got jipped $2000 (deposit) trying to buy supra from some guy at Idaho... and sending money through western union was the dumbest thing I did... No trace, No nothing... I learnt couple rules off this one... When you buy car... Go take a look at the car before you put any money down... And Dont ever send money throuhg Western Union because there's no insurrance or any tracing. All it will show is that your money was picked up... and gone.

Internatial...-> Funny thing is... they always claim that they have some sorta hook up so they are willing to send the car for free or some thing like that... NEVER trust it.. you will end up getting jipped like me cry

You don't put deposits down on cars. You go there with the money & a friend and drive the thing home. Ask for her photo ID, match that to the ownership & match the ownership to the VIN# in the windshield, and check for any outstanding liens & then you are good to go.

but seriously, gts costs WAY MORE than wut it costs in US. thats why not a lot of ppl have celicas in europe.
and second, all issues put on a side, MONEY IS MONEY. it doesnt matter where its coming from. western union or eastern union.

I say shop somewhere local for the car. Saving a few K but purchasing it international is not worth it IMO.

I like to see the car and etc. when I purchase mine.

Like the retiredpimp said, there are a lot of people out there just scamming. This one sounds just like all the others. When i was in the market for a motorcycle i ran into a lot of these. DON'T DO IT, you will be out $2000. Just my input.

They really do own the car.. The title that this guy sent me was for real. Checked with the DMV and the title did exist..

But without paperworks, their ID, their phone number, their address, and picture of themselves, this whole thing is just fake.

I fell into those trap and I know I made a big mistake... If I had those deposit money with me, I wouldnt have half complete car right now. That deposit money that I lost costed me complete car...

Dont do it and you will probably find out later that someone else ended up getting jipped.. Hopefully, it's none of the ecelica member... one damage is enough... none of you guyz should suffer from it. happywink

DON't GET IT.
I know a friend who was going to buy a supra from london for 8000$.
And he paid half of the car to ship it to US. And the car never came and the guy never answered back. And you can't really do anything about since, its in other country.
We told him not to get it, it sounded too cheap for TT supra and it was out of country. I personally don't even trust if it was out of state.

You should buy a car thats around your area. not only you get to see the car first, you are sure that car is there and make better deal.

Was that black supra? I messed around w/ that london guy for a while... knew it was fake... He was taking it serious just to grab the money...

but Idaho one... I didnt see it coming... It had 89k miles... so $15000 sounded just correct...(non-turbo 96)

I think 8000 dollars must be about 5000 pounds. The value of that car (which I might add would not even be called a GTS) is more like 17,000 pounds. Its a definite hoax. I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to even consider it.

Even if it was genuine the car would fail emissions in America, you'd probably need new cat/exhaust etc. Plus all the hassle of registering it and so on.

FORGET IT!
