Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior spring install...help

hi guys..i just go a tein stech for my b-day, and i jsut wondering is that hard to put it on by myself. because i asked outside. and people tell me around 100 for install, so anyone here install the spring by yourself tell me wat is the hard part,i really dun want to spend money for install, ppl say is hard to install! iono!!help

its not that hard. But the rear is kinda a pain in the ass to do. Just have the right tools and have one of your buddies to give you an hand.

unless you are mechanically inclined, i wouldn't attempt it. automotive springs can be VERY dangerous if it's not done properly (a flying spring can rip off an arm and fingers like it was a hot knife through butter).

if you do attempt it...make SURE you use a spring compressor. do NOT attempt to install springs w/out one (for the above arm/fingers reason).

that said, there are plenty of install guides on the web, i beleive either Turbo magazine or import tuer also has an install guide for the 7th gen celica..check their website for the link

^ Ditto...$100 is cheaper than loosing an arm/finger. If you don't feel comfortable installing, then have a pro do it.

You can try bargaining it down to $80 since it shouldn't take them much more than an hour if they are true professionals who do it all the time.

$100 doesn't seem too bad to me. Drop off the car, go for lunch, wander a bit come back, done. I'd pay $100 to get mine done.

yeah but I'm a cheap M*thaF^kr!!! Price shouldn't be an arm and a finger, uh leg.

i did it on a few other cars, and the fronts on a celica, and it was a bitch... couldnt get the rear bolts off without an impact wrench...

so when my sportlines came i just payed to have em installed.

lol.

but when you look at it that way--i'd just drop it off...unless like i said 'if you are mechanically inclinded'

take the 100 dollars you are going to spend on the install and go buy yourself some tools to do it yourself. At least then you can walk away from the deal with something in your hand instead of something in your ass. Dont pay those monkeys to do the job for you. Learn how to work on you car and buy some tools

Get someone really strong to help you out. The last car i had was lowered via springs and it took 3 peeps to do it.

After that get an alignment and balance, then you're set

Spring installs can be EXTREMELY dangerous if not done properly. Like others have said a compressed spring has enough tension to go through a cement foundation. You have to use the proper tools and use them right. If you aren't comfortable working on cars already I wouldn't suggest you try this and $100 would be a good investment into your safety. However if you are comfortable working on cars and can get your hands on a spring compressor than install shouldn't be too bad for you.

Also after install you should get your alignment checked if you don't know anything about camber adjustment.
