Okay I removed the catalytic converter a day ago.Everything went fine until the next day, the Engine Light Warning came up . My friend said it's the Oxygen Sensor that comes before or after the catalytic converter, it's trying to say that their something wrong with catalytic converter. So anyways my question is:Can I remove the O2 Sensor? If yes how? Will my engine get messed up or die? Is the O2 Sensor before or after the catalytic converter? Please I need help? Instructions or pics well be really appreciated. Once again Thanks for everything!!

the o2 sensor is before the catalytic converter. it's there to measure the amount of unused oxygen in the exhaust to keep the air/fuel mixture as close to maximim efficiency as possible. definitely keep the o2 sensor in your car. if you dont, your ECU wont know how much fuel to add to the air going into the engine. the o2 sensor is before the catalytic converter because it needs to know how much oxygen is left unused in the exhaust. when the exhaust goes through the catalytic converter, some of the unused oxygen is used to complete some of the reactions not finished by the combustion in the engine, thereby eliminating most of the harmful toxins released into the engine by incomplete combustion. the o2 sensor keeps the air/fuel mixture as close to the stoichiometric point as possible while still leaving some o2 for the catalytic converter to do its job.

Same thing happened to my car with the O2 sensor. I took it to the dealership to find out why my CEL was on and they told me what it was. It ended up costing me almost $300 with parts and install. That could have been another mod!!!

My car isnt under warrenty anymore so i had to pay them like $62.99 for a "look" on day 1. At the same time i ordered the O2 sensor. Day 2 i got the part installed and it was ~$139.99 and another $62.99 for labor. So with tax it was about $280. I just rounded up to 300. You could reset your computer and see if you just triggered the CEL. If the CEL doesnt come back on then you wont have to dish out 300 smackers. I tried that but it came back on so i cursed at my car the whole way to the dealership.

I'm not sure - I've haven't ever encountered that problem before... you might want to just go to your dealership and explain the problem to the master-tech and see if there is someway he can just "fix" the problem, rather then replace the whole thing. from past experiences, dealerships are recommended to replace the faulty parts so that they can send them back to R&D for diagnosis of why the part failed. but if you explain exactly what you were doing at the time the part stopped working and the master tech understands, they can most likely just fix the problem using professional creativity. the gauge cluster in my celica needed to be replaced because i shorted out a few of the sensors in it... the master tech at the dealership I went to, demonstrated how to bypass the problem by jumping a few lines together... i took some photos of his examples and then went home and fixed the problems myself with less than $0.35 of materials... instead of doing the dealership recommended $450 gauge cluster replacement. ... just ask the master-tech at your fav dealership for some advice

All you do is disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 min then put it back on. The alarm should make you jump a little so just turn it off with your button. The CEL will be off for sure for a little while but drive it around for awhile to see if it will come back on. If it does then you might have to replace it or rapair it.

Hold up. You have no cat. Therefore the O2 sensor after the cat is not reading what it needs to read. The CEL will come on after you drive it for a bit and the enigine gets warmed up.

I know it comes on but I want the Engine Light off! So then should I do what Isaac told me to do? About asking the tech for some advice? Yea, you could try that. I remember a while ago about some talk about how to fix this problem. I have no idea where it was or what it was called, but I am pretty sure you can get this solved. First ask your tech and go from there. Share with us what the tech told you.

ok ok, lets clear this up. There are 2 O2 sensors. One before and one after. It just seems from most replies that people think there is just one.

if it was the O2 sensor before the cat, the light will go off very soon. Since its the sensor after the cat, it will take a few miles, once its warmed up, it will go off.

also remember that without your CAT installed, by talking to the techs, i believe that they are required by law to report you. I had no clue that you didnt have a cat when I wrote my sugestions above

The creative professionalism used to fix my gauge cluster Notice how there is a jumper wire between the WHITE and BLUE connectors...
