Last night I was driving home and all the roads were flooded and many were closed down. I was just bearly making it through all the water. I was really worried because all my engine plastics, including the ones that cover the ecu and fuse boxes are gone because I am letting someone use them to make carbon fiber molds for them. Anyways, I am driving and my CEL comes on, but my car is still running fine. Then later on down the road, my power steering stops working and my car stops running, and the battery light comes on. All the accessories (i.e. lights, a/c, and stuff) still worked, but my car wouldnt start. Plus I think I saw smoke coming from under the hood, but Im not sure. It was raining very hard and it was dark except for the lightning. I got it home after my dad jumped it. Then this morning I tried to drive it, only the CEL was on, but I got down the road and when I gave it gas it would jump, and the CEL would go off and on again and again, then when I gave it gas, it wouldnt do anything. Then it died. I cant get it to stay started. When I crank it (its being jumped) it'll start for a few seconds, then die.
Please help me if you know what is going on!!
Also, if my ecu is damaged, can I buy a power fc and have it replace the ecu?

I hope you don't have a cai... that said, the Power FC can replace your stock ecu however I'm willing to bet other damages exist as well

as long as the water wasnt too high (didn't get into your airbox located at the top of your hood) and you had your plastic ECU cover still screwed on...your exhaust probably just flooded.

I got my car stuck in a flood a couple of months ago and my car was having similar problems..but i knew that the water didnt get into my airbox.

when you do get your car started (from a jump or anything) give it gas like crazy...you need to get air flowing out of your exhaust pipe so force as much air as possible through there. my car was having problems for about 3 weeks with bogging at low rpms and not being able to hit lift (i drive a gts) but now my car is running great thumbsup

and the 'smoke' you seen was most likely just water touching your engine...which turned it to steam. thats what the 'smoke' was in my case

That sounds about right, except my ecu was not covered. So what do you think made the CEL come on, and why would it turn off and on. I hope it works. Thanks.

you can replace your stock ecu with the power FC if that is what the problem is

I'm hardly an expert, but it sort of sounds like your alternator isn't charging the battery. Does it stay running as long as you're jumped to another car?

your CEL will come on for almost anything..anytime the computers pick up something thats nice right (such as excess water in your exhaust, etc) it'll flash on.

reset your ecu and see if it comes back on (unplug your negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes) thumbsup

same thing happened to my friends nissan. water was every where. we had to change out the spark plugs wires cap and rotor air filter and also drain the oil. freaking water got every where.

as long as the water didnt higher then the bottom part of your headlight you should be fine. check your stock air filter though. theres a small compartment below the filer that is used to catch a lot of the dirt and depri im pretty sure there is some water in there.

this is one of the saddest celica threads ive ever seen. a celica trying to go through a flood, when its almost out, it dies
as for the CEL light, not to worry about that for now. you can get that scanned and find out wuts wrong easily. it could be that it read a temperature cool down a lot on some part thats why it dropped. im assuming anything from 02 sensor to exhaust or something related.
best way to turn it on probably is punching the gas before starting and then start the car. rev the car to hell (dont hit the fuel cut, but keep the revs high). crazy smoke will come out of ur exhaust and then after a minute everything should be better. same thing happens when you got gasoline in ur sparkplugs. easy way to get out of it
