this may be a stupid question but where are volkswagens made? I'm sure they are made in europe but my girlfriend is convinced they are in brasil. so just to prove her wrong i want someone else to tell me where they are made and hopefully i'm not in the wrong.

VW is German.

They might be produced in other countries though. Much like Toyota builds cars in the US, and some American cars are made in Mexico spineyes

They do make other cars there...VW is very popular in Mexico. We drove down there just after they introduced the new Beetle and every third car was a Beetle.

Some of the more expensive ones (Phaeton) are made in Germany, but the more popular ones, such as the Jetta, are made in other places. My (sister's) ride, an '02 VW Cabrio Conv't, was made south of the border in Mexico, and the quality shows (it's a piece of trash, or at least i hate it).

Volk = folk. The folks wagon or ppls wagons.
Civic = ppl. The ppls car.

Volkswagen (pronounced volks-vaagen) company was originally started in Germany by Hitler. True story. Made is a difficult question. Today, parts for cars can be made in one country, then shipped and assembled in another country, then distributed and sold to other third party countries. spineyes

I know my grandmothers '00 Beetle was assembled in Mexico, but the parts came from Europe, I believe. Not necessarily Germany. Combat could be right. Germany has switched over to more expensive cars like Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW. To make cars more affordable, production has to be cheapened to compensate. Retail - Cost of production = profit grin. Cheaper to assemble in countries where wages are lower. I'm sorry for confusing you further. idunnoAny other questions?

they are produced in other countries as well..but their headquarters are in germany..along with most of their other plants. the best way to find out where your car was made is to just look on the drivers side door frame and read what country it was made in (you will find that all celicas are made in japan)

volkswagen also owns other car companies...most notably BMW, Bentley, and Bugatti

A guy named Ford and the mass-produced Model T? About 30 years earlier? I'm sure Germany made many cars before Hitler made the "peoples car". He just made it a symbol of Germany and cranked those babies out

just like toyotas that some are put together in US, but original parts are made in japan. they are put together in america(some of them). same with VW. parts are put together in mexico(some cheap models like jetta and so so)
but doesnt mean they are made in mexico. they are originally from germany. they are the first german car before mercedes-benz and bmw or anything like that. they probably were one of the first cars in the world.
