Looking into buying a Celica soon after the school year starts and I was wondering what one would work best with a Turbo. I will not be doing the upgrade for a year or so but want to make sure I buy the right car now! Thanks for the help in advance!

I'm pretty sure it's because it has lower compression.

BTW, I talked to someone who KNOWS...and it is possible to land in lift on a GTS with Turbo. So figure out which one would be faster. I don't care if GT's have lower compression, b/c you can lower the compression of the GTS with different pistons. One person on this board claims his friend made 236 whp at 5 psi on a GTS, and has the dyno up. Try that on a GT with 5 psi. I'm not saying impossible, but just go ahead and try it.
I get my kicks on EC.

depends on ur budget really, because fittin a Turbo into the gts takes a lot of time and tuning... bloodredgt saw a guy at the track that was rich and was still tuning after he ran a couple of 14s... gts is pretty hard unless you have the money and/or you kno wtf ur doing... go wit da gt but stay easy on the Turbos because everyday driving can hurt it... goodluck
another honda kill story is always welcome

I'm not saying impossible, but just go ahead and try it. word. one thing that is VERY misleading on these boards. a celica GT makes better GAINS with a Turbo (lets say 50 whp, just for an example) because it has a lower compression. however, let's say the GTS makes 40 whp with a Turbo. now, while the GT is clearly making a better gain than the GTS (50 to 40) but then keep in mind that the GTS already has 40 more Bhp (lets say thats 35 whp if you want to go by the average 10% loss of bhp in the celica gts). your STILL going to have more power in the gts. so instead of the diffence of 50 to 40 by a Turbo, it's more like 50 to 75 in this particular example. figure in hitting lift in a gts 6-spd and your times are MUCH better with a gts

^^ Speed4TheNeed, haha, I still can't figure out when you're agreeing with me or disagreeing or just misunderstanding me..and I know, one time I misunderstood you. You quoted me but isn't it obvious which side I'm on? Maybe it's a regional langauge difference or something???

The GT has a longer Stroke and Lower Compression, also a pretty decent size bore, the GTS has shorter stroke, higher compression, okay bore, the thing is, yeah the gt might get 50 and the gts might 40, but the gts still has more, but your forgetting one thing, the gt is ALOT torquier, and will have more tq, at less psi then the gts is still had more tq, so go figure. Gt is eaiser to customize, to make the GTS equal to the Gt, youd have to get a stroker kit, bore kit, and lower compression, all you have to do to the GT is lower compression, also, it comes stock with all these things, remember, cylinder sleeves to bore it out, arent always trustworthy, especailly with the already thin cylinder walls that the celis have!! I'd say go with the GT, you'll have better gains, that higher cam lobe wont last a long time with the pressure of boost, GTs can handle 10-11 psi, easily, it be rsiky to go more than 8 for a gts even that is too high for daily driving!!!

The only thing i like better for the GT is the Euro GT tranny, 6 speed baby, and it had a final gear of .725 i think, same as the american GTS,but is has better 1-5 ratio gears!!!! Helps to get you up to a faster speed!!!

Its gonna be that way, all GT owners will say, GT is the way to go, and all GTS owners will say that GTS is the way to go, so its all how you look at it!!

If you are serious about getting a Turbo, get a 02 GT. It's going to be far cheaper.
However, lets look at this another way.
You say it's going to be a year or so before you do the mod. That makes the car you'd be modding 5 years old for the GTS, 3 years old for the GT. Then I'm assuming you're going to keep it for a couple years. You'd then be driving around either a 7 or 5 year-old car with HEAVY mods that require a ton of maintenance. Really, that's just not practical, unless you intend to throw a ton of money toward this project. I'm not trying to come off as snobby... but if you can only afford a 2000 GTS, you're going to have a hard time affording this mod.
I say get a 00-02 six speed GTS, go with Intake/headers/exhaust and add the Power FC. It's going to be much more practical in the long run.
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you

you can Turbo the GT if you have money...at least 4grand??? but in the end, GTS still have better brake, leather seat, ABS, premium sound, etc. and I don't know why people say gt are better that's like comparing dial-up(gt) to road runner(gts) The reality of it is...not too many people Turbo their gt like they said they would

GT's are better for Turbo. But it still isn't going to be as fast as a Turboed GTS.

GT's are Great and so are GTS's, I drove both GT's cost less for insurance and GTS's are faster stock. But I say go with the best price and condition of the car.
I got an all but fully load GTS a few weeks back brand new for under invoice. So for me it was nice to have the faster stock car for the same price as a GT.
I drove a 2002 GT and it drives nice, the 5 speed does seem to be very clean, the six, not sure I like it yet. Maybe it's just me.
But I have what I have and I will get used to it.
Just my 27 1/2 cents
