I have it all worked out I should have done this before I put anything on my car, but I was ignorant when I first started modding my ride...
all this is in logical order part#...Price... HP gains Intake...$240.00...8-10 Exhaust... $700.00...6-8 Headder...$840.00...8-10 Straight pipe...$120.00...8-10 Pulleys...$350.00...6-8 Port & polish...$800.00...8-10 Apexi Power FC...$800.00... 8-10 (lower lift engagement 5800 rpms higher redline 8500) Clutch...$350.00...0 Flywheel...$350.00...0 LSD...$800.00...0-1 Racing wheels... $1,300...5-8 Drag radials...$250.00...0 Labor Tune FC...$400.00...included in power FC hp gains Labor LSD instal...$450.00... 0 Labor C/F instal... $325.00...0
Total... $8,075...57-75
stock dynos from 158-162 to the wheels
after all done 215-237 to the wheels.
215 / 2400 = 0.089 power to weight ratio or 11.2 lbs per hp 237/ 2400 = 0.098 power to weight ratio or 10.2 lbs per hp
by comparison the mustang mach 1 is 300 hp and 3300 lbs runs 13.5's in the 1/4 its power to weight ratio is 0.09 or 11.1 lbs per hp
also if I was to go the turbo route and spend 6K on the turbo, I would have to spend at least 2K for the clutch & LSD. in addition to another 2K for internals and another 2K in labor in order to safely put out about 260 to the wheels total with turbo would be around 12 K
With all the above mods I should run from 13.5-13.9 in the 1/4.
If crower ever gets off their butt and comes out with the cams & springs & retainers I can add $800.00 more to the price tag for an additional 10-15 hp. then re dyno tune $400 for another 10-15 hp total hp would be from 235-267 grand total would be 10K and run low 13's
mods I already have are: intake, exhaust, clutch, flywheel, LSD, straight pipe, racing wheels. totaling $4,635.00-half way there.
next up is the Headder 840.00 pulleys 350.00 drag radials 250. = 1440 + 4635.00=6,075
drag radials will get me 2.0 60's and drop my current ET's by 2 tenths from 9.4's to 9.2's pulleys/headder will drop another 2 tenths from 9.2's to 9.0's straight pipe on will drop another 1 tenth from 9.0's - 8.9's
8.9 1/8 mile will get me a 14.0 -13.9 slip.
port and polish will go from 8.9 to 8.8 power FC , tune, lower lift engagement (5600) higher redline (8500) will go from 8.8- 8.6
8.6 1/8 mile = 13.5-13.6 1/4 mile
if cams come out thats 8.6 to 8.5 1/8 more power FC tuning from 8.5 to 8.4
8.4 1/8 mile = 13.3-13.4 1/4 mile
There you have it my plans for the celica.
Feel free to dispute anything listed. almost all of the info is from dyno's ive seen. The theroetical parts are the port and polish/power FC tuning with lower lift and higher redline and the cams + tuning. Of course the 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile times are theoretical also, since no celicas have YET to run EDIT: 9.1 or lower 1/8 miles NA.
There already is a dyno of before tuning and after tuning with a power FC from XS engineering and it was about 10hp to the wheels with Power FC tuning on a celica. (5800 lift engagement and 8500 redline) the celica had intake / exhaust/ straight pipe and baselined at 160 ish after tuning dynoed 170 ish.

Thats seems about right, TRD sells high compression pistons also, why do you want to stay N/A you could get the XS turbo for about the same price also.
fyi I read some posts about someone with a powerFC awhile back ago and read that lowering lift actually decreased power, the lift point from the factory is already optimal

fyi I read some posts about someone with a powerFC awhile back ago and read that lowering lift actually decreased power, the lift point from the factory is already optimal not true, there already has been a dyno from XS engineering (read first post) where the lift was lowerd to 5800 rpms and there was no dip in peak power and with the tuning capabilities of the Power FC power rose about 10 hp throughout the power band. loweing the lift engagement will not reduce power(or increase it for that matter) only make the power band smoother. If you look at all the gts dynoes I've seen there is really a dip in power from 5K-6K rpms because the 1st cam lobe is actually starting to fall off by 5K rpms, that is the reason why lift feels so strong when it kicks in. if you lower lift to about 5500-5600 rpms you can almost avoid the 5K-6K dip in power and smothe out the kick that lift gives you for a better power band.

I didnt want to, nor do I want to at this moment do any bottom end work on my celica.
If I ever was to go with the 13.1 high comp pistons I would have to run race fuel only (I drive my car every day!) I cant be paying 120.00 every time I fill up my tank!
also there is a stroker kit available that I have not listed because again I do not want to go internal work untill I have another daily driver.
also most of the mods listed are removable for smog and allow you to be street legal! (they harass you for anything in cali)

You did a loy of homework, nice job. You did leave out a Jet Perfromance Chip. The folks at Jet said it give you 12 hp on stock, and more with every upgrade. Also TRD Supercharger, you have to modify it a touch because there is a hood clearence problem, but it can be done. Let me know how the quest comes along.

Those are basically my plans as well. You think it will have the same gains with a GT? It may even be cheaper for the GT. So you think that NA is better than the turbo route?

Wow, your work is quite impressive illusive. 1 question for ya though, did you dyno it? Do you have pics of your setup?

that is very good information.. but don't rely on hopes, because all those parts don't give you that much of a gain.. not all the same.. but that is very informative

If you guys read my first post at the bottom I stated the mods I currently have set up. I dont have all the mods listed. Turbo route is very expensive, you WILL need to build up internals, and you WILL need to beef up the GTS tranny it will not handle 260 hp in a drag race. internal work without labor is at least 2000. labor at least 4-5K since you have to completely tear down the motor to balance the crank install new connecting rods, new lower compression pistons, then reassemble the whole motor. I say a good engine build up with all the above should be from 5-6K then you add a turbo (XS engineering) 6K you have 12K in mods and that will only get you so far untill your tranny breaks then spend another 3-5 K for a beefed up tranny your looking at 15K for the whole set up and yes it will get you more HP at least 300 + but with a big turbo on a fwd car its very hard to launch, I dont see anything but high 12's if your lucky and if your car is completely set up for drag racing. if not your more like going to be mid-low 13's or about what I will be when all done for about 7-5 K cheaper. if your really serious you can buy the stroker kit and resleve the block for a bigger boreX stroke and increase displacement to around 2100 CC and add the high compression pistions, which will net huge gains but wont be a daily driver or street legal, which is my goal to be street legal 13 second celica. my test pipe netted me about 1mph gain at the track and thats with it bolted up to my trd exhaust. unbolted would net about a 2 mph gain, since unbolting my trd at the track nets about a 1mph gain in trap with stock cat and resonator on (these are all 1/8 mile runs--1/4 mile would see bigger gains) so with no cat / resonator (straight pipe) and having it not bolt up to the trd exhaust expect a +2mph gain, which is about 15-20 hp. although the 1mph does not always equal 10 hp, this seems to be a good "general" rule of thumb in cars 13 seconds and higher. any faster and this rule gets thrown out. test pipe/ straight pipes usually can be made at local shops, just ask that they weld on flanges to bolt up your stock cat and resonator, you will also need a 02 simulator since no cat will trigger a CEL. check www.splitsecond.com [ splitsecond.com] they have one for the 02 sim I believe. as far as picks of my ride check the events forum and look for the block at orange meet, theres a few pics of my ride there, I have a carbon blue celica with a trd "action package" and the spiderman front license plate. most of the mods you cannot see by looking at the engine bay. except my nice and shiny intake manifold. I ceramic painted it when I took it off to do the 00 ecu swap. also you can see the AEM intake, all the other stuff the flywheel clutch lsd you cannot see, you can see the 16X7.5 ssr comps, and I dunno if anyone got a good shot of my ram air that night. peace
