Okay, here's the scoop. I'm in the market for a Celica. There is only one '04 model nearby, and it's a Spectra Blue GT (The color I want) but it's an auto. My other choice, if I want a manual, is to buy a used silver '01 GT at a chevy dealership. The car has 41,735 miles on it. The dealership is asking $14,000 for it, but the people who own the dealership are friends and neighbors of ours, so I can swing anywhere between 11 and 12.5 for it. Here's my predicament: My parents don't want me in a used car, be it Toyota or not (personally I don't mind). My parents want to know from you guys/girls if this car is worth risking 12 on. I'd also like to add that I really(x5) don't want an auto, because the Celica is way too cool looking to do it an injustice like buying it with an auto. What do I do???

i dont see a problem with that car or the price. 45k on any toyota is still considered new. as long as you dont abuse it keep the maintance on it up and dont start to misshift youll be ok in a used car.

also if your parents dont want a used car get a Scion TC or the cobalt or the SRT-4 but the TC i wouldnt recomend new cars in the first year of production are bound to have a few kinks in them.

Buy the silver one if you can get a deal on it.

Hmm... Anyone got any opinions on the Corolla XRS? It's a 6-speed VVTL-i and costs about 19.5. I'd much rather have a Celica, though, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

Too much money for a Corolla. I had a base model in '99 & it was worth the coin.

don't let your parents choose your car, i did that once and ended up with auto gts. regert everyday...

Actually, my current car was shosen by my dad. I was supposed to get a 50% say in which car was bought, but he decided that it was more fair to buy my sister what she wanted and screw what I thought. He also bought it while I was away for a week and without even telling me what he was buying. So, long story short, my sister get's a brand new '02 VW Cabrio (which, to this day, has only 8200 miles on it) and I am forced to get a job.

Get the '01. I have an '01 GT Auto. I love my car in every way, except I wish it was a standard. I don't regret buying it at all, just wish it was 5-speed. Oh, I bought mine used with 17,000 on it. Now have 73,000 ( in 28 months) no complaints. Good luck.

Shit, yeah. As soon as i turned 18 i traded in my 4 door auto 2003 civic. killed that sucker off in 3 months after i got it BRAND NEW, say hello to celica.

Just tell the dealer you want a manual and you get it. It a new car, you get what you want with a new car. I had to wait 2 hours at the dealer for my red Celica. It worth the waitting

I'd definitely go with the used stick-shift Celica. Remember to always check out what you're buying first though. That used Celica is pretty low-mileage, and they will take a lot of miles compared to other cars before developing problems. But definitely run a CarFax on it, to get the ownership/title history, or have the dealership run one for you. Mostly you want to avoid a "salvaged" car which was rebuilt from totalled status (or at least be able to make a reduced offer on it if it was salvaged). And yeah, if you can get the dealership to get a new stick Celica for you, and your parents are willing, then go for it!

Try to never compromise on what you get for a car (like getting a stick if that's what you want). You'll always thank yourself for it.

Tell your parents that manual trannys lost longer than automatic ones, and that they are more reliable.

Also say that if they want you to get an auto, that they will have to pay for repairs on the tranny.

I bought my 00 GT 5spd with 43k miles for $12k with tax and title. not a thing wrong with it

$12000 for a 2000 GT is kinda pricy. a dealer here is selling a 2000 GTS with 57000 miles for $13000...

If you really want the manual, get the 01 Celica. 45k is not that bad.

My dad let me get the Celica. The only condition: it had to be automatic tranny. "You don't need manual, it will only encourage you to drive faster." They're still waiting for me to bring home a speeding ticket. I don't mind an auto, since I don't know how to drive stick. I'll get the tranny conversion in a year, prolly. After 150k miles, i'm swaping the engine, or maybe i'll just keep the engine in for shows and buy another car.

My first car was a 91 pontiac grand prix. It was totally basic and It cost ME 2000 dollars. Consider yourself lucky your parents get you anything let alone a new celica.

I had planned on letting this thread die, but since someone has posted it I guess I'll update you all. I'm trading in my VW Cabrio for a 2001 Black Celica GT 5spd with (get this) 12,500 miles on it! I'm going in for even trade, otherwise I could get it for $14k. This is all likely going down tomorrow night, unless I can locate a newer one, or one in Spectra Blue.

dont buy a auto, sounds like you could easily talk your parents into buying you a new 6 speed gts so dont settle for auto gt
