well the race division is elongated to reach the lower part of the car to get colder air and give better HP gains, the regular is called a short ram which sits in place of the stock air box and takes in the air that is in the engine bay, which is usually hot so it will give less HP gains compared to the race division. maybe a 2-4 horsepower difference.

i have the shortram. Shortram sit under the hood are more show and go together. They let people see it but it is also the adverse of CAI. You can hydrolock with CAI, so shortram is the way to go so that does not happen. For show, go, and safety.

short ram still pulls in hot air from the engine tho..so CAI definately shows better power gains..about the hydrolock..ive heard so many different sides..who knows if it will or not..its all ur choice..When it rains here..IT RAINS with huge puddles..and I have CAI cause its the best power increase soo..its all up to you

when i was shopping for intakes i was SERIOUSLY considering CAI...just because of the power you get. but many people were advising me to get a short ram...i didn't know why until jan/feb/march it rained here in the valley liek you wouldn't belive. the streets here are not made for lots of rain since we don't get a lot so instead of having them desined to drain water out they collected into these deep puddles...puddles so deep and huge it RIPPED the underside plastics off!...all those times it rained like that i was glad i had a short ram...cuz if you hydrolock you car you're f-cked!...i was thinking of buying a used CAI for the summers and putting the short ram when the rainy season comes..but...i'm too lazy

shortam is just an alternation of the CAI. You still get good gains...but maybe not as much air as the CAI. the shortram is for the fear or avoidment of hydrolocking in any situation.

U live in LA right?...it olmost never rains in so cal. a full length CAI is much better. You dont have to worry about it hydrolocking bcuz there's never enough rain that the bottom of your car will be submerged.

yea a little water splashed on it doesn't hurt it. I got shortram because I didn't want to hack away at the plastic for the CAI and I wanted to see it under the hood.
