hey guys, quick question. What is the difference between VVTI (variable valve timing) and VVTLI(variable valve timing lift intelligence)? I know that the VVTLI gives you a Turbo like boost at high RPM's, but what about VVTI? such as in the new scion tC with the camry engine?

to go along with what was said above by isaac: vvt-i and vvtl-i are basically the same engines until 6k rpms. after 6k rpms the vvtl-i (also called 2zz) uses more fuel injection to bump horsepower at the wheels up another 40 bhp over the vvt-i engine (also called 1zz). thats the simplified version, but that's how it is at its basic levels

yeah but vtec engages earlier unlike VVTLi lift, which i think is a little more of an advantage.

I Just want variable valve timing system in a car that gives it a flat tourqe curve, makes power to red line, and doesn't fall out of its agressive cams when shifting...in which Honda does with its cars and Toyota is trying to do with its cars

The OEM parts have different part numbers. If the parts were interchangeable, the part numbers would be the same.
