I just moved to Chi town (Chicago) recently and between January and now, I have two bent rims... The roads here are almost impossible to drive on. Whose going to pay for this, I know I can't. Any suggestions?

dayum, that's really really bad. some places offer road hazard warranties for such unavoidable situations such as this. otherwise you're looking to shell out for another rim, and maybe tire.

The good news is that they are ugly rims to begin with, now you have an excuse to buy good lookin' new ones. thumbsup

Stronger Rims? Or try to avoid potholes. I've never seen a pothole do that to a rim, but it is Chicago. rofl

You might be able to complain to the city and be reimbursed for the damage. If your paying car tax, that goes toward road up keep and such, then its their responsibility to keep the roads in good condition. Its their responsibility as a city, which means you have every right to demand they replace your two wheels. My uncle had the same problem years ago in my town with his challenger and they bought him a couple new rims.

if it was done on public street, you can always tell the city. but this will take long time...
And rims don't usually bent like that unless you were speeding.

You know, nobody ever mentions the fact that you can get rims repaired, you don't really need to buy new ones.

Look in the phone book under auto repair, or in the back of tuner magazines. also, many body shops can repair rims too (I've had it done that way before). it's much cheaper than buying replacement rims, and they will be nice & round, perfectly balanced and stronger than ever when they're done.

Until you get to know the roads in the city, keep an eye out for those potholes. after a while, you get to know where all the potholes are at. they will only kill the rims if you are going fast when you hit them, if you take them slow, they won't mess your rims up (BTW, 35 MPH over a deep pothole is too fast; it's better to just avoid them if you can't slow down.

either that, or buy a set of steelies for daily driving, and save your nice ones for racing or shows.

There are few wheel repair shops around in my town..
You should too... they can pretty much repair bent lips..
As long as you didn't twisted the wheel.. it should be repairalbe...
They also can fix rims that has chunks ripped off...

Just to give you a possible range of repair prices, I recently checked here in my area and repairing a single rim went from $100-150. If it required refinishing, that could be from $75-100. And the repair examples I saw looked "like new." So, depending on the price of your rims, you could save some money that way. The down side for you may be that you could be doing this on a regular basis, if they bent that easily. Good luck...

I've hit so many potholes that it's not even funny, but yeah, if you would have gone with a higher quality wheel, like 5Zigen, the only damage you would have had would be a scratch. Also, if they were a two piece wheel, you could have ordered the outside part and had a shop install the new piece.

You're SOL.

I would get a hold of the city and let them know whats up! it will take a long time. But its better late then never. My friend here where i live he got his 19 inch rims bent from a dumb pot hole cause of the damn contruction workers. He told the city about it and he his money for 4 new RIMS! He said, "it took hella days to get the money," but he got his money and bought himself some nicer newer rims. Good Luck though bro! thumbsup

Those are multi piece rim... So you can repair them for cheaper than 1 piece rim.

Probably cost you from 50- 75 bucks most.. anything above that... ur paying too much... my friend's 3 piece M5 (had 2 of his rims fixed) costed him bout 90 bucks total.
