last week i got a parking ticket for parking in reverse.this happened in san diego,ca @ oceanside i didnt see the sign posted that said "no reverse parking" and i hadnt been to that parking lot ever before..it was dark and i had never heard of reverse parking tickets..so my question is...wtf is the reasoning behind this parking law.

What is reverse parking? Backing into a spot, or parking facing traffic?

Backing into a spot might be banned in high traffic areas. It REALLY screws with traffic when people do it.

yah i heard the same thing too in some school parking lots

but its a lot more efficient when leaving..parking in reverse... thus time taken when backing into the parking spot should then be even as with leaving..

although you have to wonder what would be better getting hit?? the front or rear.. when people who reverse.. dont know how to reverse

pointless ticket, it shouldnt matter if you park in reverse cause you will get out, and as erick said it would even out when leaving. unless there's more to the circumstances

isn't better just to park backwards...so when you backout...you could see whoever passes by...then just backing out in reverse.

I think the reason for that law is so that they can see everyones plates. That way it will be easier for them to locate a stolen plate, stolen car, or even stolen stickers.. Its going to be like that wherever there is a high population, just to get rid of a lot of the bullshit that is going on.. Think of it this way, if your car was stollen and the cops were on the look out for it but bypassed it because they couldn't see the plate, I bet u'd be one pissed off fella...

but hes from california, its illegal not to have front license plates, so i think your idea wouldnt apply to us cali peeps cause we would get a ticket anyway for not having a front license plate in the first place

I got one of those be4... wasnt it pretty cheap like 25 bucks?? Parking ticket doesnt go in to moving violation anywayz.. mite as pay4 it and not worry bout it???

its 27 bucks and yeah im gonna pay for it and get it over with but still like everyone said...STUPID

there is a lot by me like that. There is a huge sign that says do not reverse into spots. I dunno why though, not the front plate issue like someone said because in Illinois its illegal to not have a front plate.

yeah, well for locals that huge sign will work, but if your just visiting and youve never heard of a ticket of that sort and its dark and the sign isnt really..huge (yes i drove around loolking for a sign and there was a couple of posts with (no reverse parking) in big bold black letters. i mean it can catch you off guard. i guess its a big money maker for the lot. it was actually lot security that gace me a ticket and not the po po. so maybe its just the lot owners way of making an extra buck.

i had the ticket ONCE. it was late at night and i didn't feel like swinging 'round to parallel park the correct way and i knew i wouldn't be leaving during rush periods, so i said what the hey...

i received a fifteen dollar ticket. on average i paid $60 a month in parking tickets plus my $60 a month for garage parking...

well, there is no parking on the left side of the road unless it is a one-way street. by deduction the cop can ascertain that you broke the law parking or leaving, 'cause you were driving on the wrong side of the street. also, it is a safety hazard.
