I am so frustrated...What ever happened to Toyota reliability? I mean honestly..I have had so many problems and I only have 39k miles! WTF! I love the look of the car and I love the feel of lift when it engages...the sound OH THE SOUND! I look back and realize how much money I have put into my car after the purchase and it hurts... $5,200 and all I have to show for it is superb handling.
My car is in no way fast. I have lost races against multiple GTP's... I consider those slow *LAFF*.
I have fixed so much shit on my car... First went the Cruise Control, then the right headlight harness melted, then my clutch goes out, then my battery light shows up and I am like "WTF" (I think my alternator is now dead and I don't even have a system...), and then today when I found out that Toyota would not warranty a faulty T radiator Pipe something in me snapped. I started driving around town looking for different cars...anything that I could make a trade for... I found a jeep that I like.
Does this sort of stuff happen to other celica people? I am just freaking out...I am starting to hate my car dispise it's dead sexy appearance. What should I do. I feel like I own a lemon.. If the alternator is dead then I will have dumped over $1200 in the last month in repairs done to my car.
sucks to be you, there was a stage in my car, when i hated it too, but now im back on guard kuz i took some money and fixed sumthing i didnt like about it...the interior...i have pictures posted on this site under the pictures section
good luck with your celi, i guess get a new one. why not just buy sumn really cheap and reliable like a 5th gen?
Did you know that you can build an entire jeep piece by piece from a JC whitney catolog?
Plus they climb like a mother. Yes, they aren't super reliable... But honestly, I could affor a jeep and a 92' MR2 for the total price of my celica... And that MR2 would blow it away..in EVERY catagory. I am just...frustrated...
dont worry it...ive had problems like this too except its on the body. ive brought my car into the body shop so many times i cant even remeber and have probably dumped more than a grand getting damages fixed. sometimes i think my car is bad luck...but fuck it its still a celica and for sheez i wont bail
This is something I have been debating, with the discontinuing and everything, should I really get a celi?
Everyday, getting a bike and building a project 240/300/MR2 on the side seems cheaper, more fun, and more powerful.
Reliablity wouldn't be an issue, most days I would ride. Days with bad weather, I would have easy access to my dads car, my beater truck, and my project car.
Plus I don't think I can comfortably afford payments and insurance. GTS is only for the rich youngins
seriously bro, just fix the alternator and the frickin tube. the alternator should be fixed under warranty, the clutch is maybe ur fault, was the celica ur first manual car? just give it one more chance, it probably should be fine. plus try not to abuse ur car if you are a bit.
Why you complaining, a lot of us have had worse. Try having your Celica break down on you brand new after like 8000KM then had to go into the shop for like 2 weeks just so it can come out still busted. Then above all that, you have completely no luck in your vehicle since day one and yes, I share your hatred for Toyota as well. But ya know what, it's all about the love you have for your car. My car have had something to be fixed since day one from bumpers, doors, fenders, rear quarter panels, lighting, ECU, cam, and more! But I still love it and wouldn't trade it in for anything until I honestly like something else better that I can afford. Until that day, this baby is mine!
Don't worry, you having bad luck now just means you'll have greater luck in the future!
i too feel like ditching the celica at times. it's not a reliability issue yet since it's a 03', but pure Performance just lacks. hence, i was looking at an evo back in june. the Performance just blows away the celica in every way possible. for the amount of money that i put into the celica in Performance, exterior, handling it's still no where near the evo. plus, it would equal to the amount of a stock evo...

The alternator will not be covered under warranty... and no, this is my 4th manual car. I know how to drive a stick...very well actually. I belive it was the person before me who ultimately burned it out... Infact I know this to be true... Ever since my clutch got replaced I have a whole new car! I didn't know it when I bought the car, but the clutch had been slipping slightly al the way through second gear... My car accelerates SO much faster now!
I dunno, I am at the point where if ONE more thing goes wrong I will go and trade my car for a 350Z or an S2000 and be rid of toyota bullshit. Or I could just privately sell my car and buy a Jeep and an older MR2 for the same price... ARGHHH!
i've had so many problems with mine, also, burned up battery cables, blown tranny after 13,000 miles, even the only recall ended up being a disaster when they fucked up my gas tank and fuel lines. i hear what your saying Rocketman.
IMO, anyone who puts more money than they have to into a car isn't seeing the reality that cars are a money pit, even reliable Toyotas. Mine has been good to me, but shit happens. Own a crappy GM & see how much it costs ya.
i had a couple problems before with my old celica but belive me its good compared to other cars !! 3 of my friends have 2000->BMW`s and its a hassel wih all 3 one of them have repaired it for 5000 us dollar now since last summer and its somfhing wrong with it rigth now to , maybe any one knows wath it is : when he start the car teh rpm jump up to 2000 and then falls down and shock.
i feel you man, i've been down that road, i bought the car with 60,000km at 72,000 my clutch went so i shelled out 1700cdn to get a clutch and flywheel, then at 74,000 the cel came on and i took it to toyota and an ignition coil was gone another 100 deductible the rest under ext. warrenty then at 78,000kms the cel came on again so back to toyota and the fuel injectors on my 2000gts need to be updated and the ecu has to be updated too, they didn't want to fix it they said that that ext. warrenty should cover it, but the ext. warrenty place said toyota should cover it for a month it went back and forth, then they decided to only change the ecu and if the problem with the injectors doesn't go away then come back...duh of course in 2 weeks i had to go back and have them changed, now finally i was sure that the car had no more problems and what happens at 79,000kms the 4th gear is grinding on downshifts, so i take it back to toyota and they tell me that they need to rebuild the tranny, fuck off they had my car for a month and a half telling me it would be done in 3 weeks, in the end they rebuilt it into a 2003 transmission, and the receipt showed almost $4000cdn in parts, why couldn't they just give me a new tranny oh well,
the point being that i wanted my fucking celica gone because it was the biggest pain in the ass, but when i got it back from the shop and i started letting it loose on the highway i fell in love with her all over again

Maybe your right...My celica is in the shop now and i can't drive it... Maybe that is the problem. Damnit.
Plus I don't think I can comfortably afford payments and insurance. GTS is only for the rich youngins
I only wish I were a rich youngin'!
$450/mo. car payment < $100/mo. insurance
Try to get on your parents' insurance, and have the older/safer of the two rated on your Celi, then have you rated on the crappiest, lowest-insurance vehicle!
We have a 90-something Oldsmobile, a 90-something GMC Sierra, and my '04 Celica.

most dealers don't rebuild tranny, just simply replace with a new one. with your case, they were probably trying to find a 03' to replace with yours, which will cost toyota less.

See! Toyota is made up of assholes...HUGE ASSHOLES! All they talk is shit...and stuff. I really hate toyota.
^it's only toyota of america will do crap like that. my father had a dinner with a head of toyota sales division in japan. the japanese guy told my father, toyota customer service in U.S. is among the worst compares to their other divisions in world...
sorry to hear it bro, i havent had any real problems, only problem i had is when i had to replace the altenator since it was making a wierd sound at when the car had 220,000 on it
Yep, my alternator is dead... Guess how much it costs for another one? Hmm? Anyone.? $300. Yes that is right folks Three Hundred Dollars. I can't keep this shit up. I don't make enough money to pay my payments, my insurance, and fix my car... ARGHHHH!!!!
