Your motor is burning the oil.

I'm not sure why it would be doing it so soon. Was the car ever overheated? Did it go without oil for any length of time?

Tell them you wan't your cylinder walled honed, new pistion rings and new crank bearings. That should fix ya up. thumbsup

no it wasnt overheated and it did run out of oil (thats how i knew it was losing it) but it wasnt for very long they said they checked everything and there was no evidence of oil in the spark plugs, air filter, pcv valve etc.. he was just as baffled as i was lol can i request something like that on a whim under warranty?

My bf had the same problem with his 00 celica too.
He took it to toyota so many times about it burning oil that they started accusing him of draining it out him self!
They even painted is drain bolt so they could tell if he was doing it. Needless to say he lemom lawed it and got rid of it.

Oh ya he also had something happen to his tranny.
Toyota said that when it was built someone left a "tool" in it. idunno

Make sure you measure it yourself & see where its at. And no 1qrt per 1000 miles is rediculous, that leaves you out of oil by your next oil change! thumbsdown

the only way oil will actually burn up and leave the engine is if you are pushing it WAY too hard, or there is something wrong. The shitty 5W-30 crap toyota put's in it sucks, when i first got my car, the oil wasn't even viscous it was more like water.

toyota has hadmitted in my country that the first celica`s had a problem with some high usage of oil, tell the dealer that you heard some early models had a problem with high usage of oil and mybe they will tell you it`s taht. but i dunno it can be just in europ.

it was a high change of getting this on early models if the 1. owner droved it hard and the 2. owner droved it slow.
becuase of taht the stempels(duno wath it is in english the sylinders or wath its called the 4 fhing going upp and down grin ) then got out of balance and tear the side!!!

Hmmm, they couldn't find where the oil was burning at eh?

Well, go back and tell them that unless they took apart the engine, and inspected the pistons and their rings, no shit they wouldn't find why it was burning oil.

Fuck Toyota, have your parents yell at them, especially if you are still under warranty. If you don't get this fixed, it's only going to get worse, and then next thing you know, your engine is blown, your warranty is up, and you are shit outta luck.

If they are still reluctant to fix it, just blow the engine yourself. Fuck them.

Oh, and as for 1 quart per 1000 miles, tell them that's bullshit, and you would like to see that in writing somewhere. 1 quart per 1000 miles is what a car with busted piston rings on all 4 cylinders would burn.

Oh, and on a side note, I change my oil every 5,000 miles, I have a 2000 GTS manual, and I'm not burning any oil (actually, it's impossible for any car not to burn any oil at all, but you know what I mean. wink).

burning oil is not normal. the rotary engines are designed to burn oil, but not ours. i have the same problem, i have to top it off every 800-1000 miles. i think my piston rings are gone. frown

All cars burn oil (to some extent) due to the fact that the piston rings do not provide a 100% seal in the cylinder.

But the amount of oil burned in a well maintained car with excellent piston rings would not be noticed when you drain the oil, or check the dipstick. The amount is minimal, but oil is still burned.

Well, the only reason I said that perhaps your rings are fried is because they said that an outer visual inspection didn't turn anything up.

Lemoning a car is a pain in the ass.

Eh, well if they don't want to replace it, then your engine should be fried by then anyways. Then they will have no choice but to give you a new one.

Yeah when I talked to her over the instant message, sounded like she had a bad piston rings... But I kinda have a feeling that person who owned the car before her mis-shifted so there's a bad cylinder head somewhere... Oh wellz... I think I'll check it out and see... But even with the bad ring tho, it will still smell like burnt oil or something so yeah... the fact that she doesnt smell it means her cylinder maybe leaking oil very slowly but fast enough... Probably let her open her up (full thruttle) and see how engine reacts to that..(^_^)

Yeah, and it's also better if you have any leaks in your gaskets, which you may.

The ticking is normal to some extent, it's called valve chatter and is fairly common with our cars.

And the gas smell in the exhaust is normal also. We do have internal combustion engines.

Have someone drive behind you on the road while you hit WOT (wide open throttle), and have them watch for any smoke at all.

If you are burning oil, then it should be anywhere from faint white smoke with a hue of black in it, to deep black smoke that looks like the ass of your car is on fire. Obviously, you could see the deep black smoke yourself, but if you are burning small amounts of oil, it will be grey to white in color.

Actually, all of the spent oil that I have ever smelled smells like gas.

Gas does make its way into the oil, even if your rings are fine.

Wel, I owned celica so I know how it ticks... and all my life, I owned a 4 banger (silvia being my 4th 'under my name' car) so I know how they are supposed to be... and supposed to knock..

but when I took a look at it... it was really weird... It doesnt sound like a 4 banger... more like a diesel engine instead... tonz of knocking and tonz of clicking... I bet if I put a knock sensor on that car, the sensor would probably point at red. That, I know for sure...

As for exhaust smell... definately oil in it...

Doesnt smell/look like there's complete combustion going on...in stead of humid air coming out of exhaust... it's more like wet air... smell: of course gas... but there's more to it in a sense that there's oil smell too... just faint but enough for my stuffy nose to notice.

There is knocking sensor on celica... but not really advanced ones tho... The knocksensor that I was talking about was those that you get that filters engine noise and registers every single knock on the LED mapping screen...

my 2000 gts has 70k on it and ive always had to add about 1/2 a quart every 2000 miles or so, i do drive it hard and i think its normal. all cars burn a little oil, i would think that higher revving engines would burn more. use mobil 1 5w30..thats the best unless you want to use royal purple or red line, but those are pricey. thumbsup

If your 1 quart down from one oil change to the next, that isn't good but its acceptable. But if you have no oil left in your car by the next oil change, its burning piles of it & that's just not going to fly. thumbsdown

Some people here in Quebec,Canada with 00 and 01 celica GT had this problem! I'm glad to have bought a 02!!!

By the way Celicagirlie, do you have an extended waranty or the extra care protection for the rental car?? or you just have the normal warranty?

The problem doesn't stop in '01. Check your oil just before you get it changed at 8000KM, see how far your down.

I always check my oil every time i fill up my car with gas! it only take 1 minute to check!

Just before my oilchange (8000km) it usually miss half a quarter!

By the way anyone think it's better to switch to 5000km (3000 miles) oil change after hitting the 100 000Km (60 000miles)???

for the rental car? my car is under powertrain warranty and that covers the rental car if needed...and if they find that it is warranty... powertrain will fix it... extra care thinks rings are like brakes and are concidered normal wear and will rarely replace them grr angry

here in wa...and i think usa...they tell you to change your oil every 3000mi (5000km) or 3 months whichever comes first because it does lose its viscosity and breaks down within that time and you are not as protected as when the oil is new...so if youre racing 3000mi (5000km)or 3 months. thumbsup
