Last night I'm driving home from Moorpark on the 5-S around midnight when a big rig in front of me lost a tire. I've ran over shredded tires like that before without a problem, but wouldn't have had time to avoid this one even if I'd tried. I could tell last night that there was some damage to my brand new front bumper (which already had some scratches from the stupid repair shop). This morning I looked in the daylight, and it was worse than I thought. There are scratches all over the front lip, and the paint (if not the bumper itself) is cracked.
Going to have to file ANOTHER insurance claim to get this fixed... and wait god only knows how long before I can sell the car again.

I don't know about there, but here that would be considered a comprehensive claim & would not jack your insurance rates. If it is going to effect your insurance, I would pay for it out of your own pocket. What's your deductible?

Bingo.
That's the only reason I'm filing it. $0 deductible too.

I know. I wasn't tailing him too close... maybe 2 car lengths back. I was trying to pass some slower traffic on the left. From now on, I'm giving about 10 lengths and putting a bra or something on my cars.

Poor baby... sad to hear all that about your celi.. Jon don't get me wrong, but at 5 fwy a midnight... I bet you were drivin' at least 85-90mph
Mostly drove a minimum of 85-90. But like I said, at that point I was trying to get around some slower traffic, and had moved over to the right in the process. I'd estimate that I was under 75 when the stupid thing hit my car.

You should have gotten the big rig's plates, along with what company he was driving for.
I've had a few incidents where some gravel trucks didn't put the tarp on the top tightly enough, and rocks flew out and cracked my windshield and such. Got them to pay for it.
