I heard both good and bad things about the 2000 and up GTS tranny. Are they good or are they bad?

I have a 2000 GTS. I had the transmission rebuilt twice (under warranty). It was grinding bad going into 4th. It's okay now. Reverse is hard to go into sometimes.

Wow I have the same problem going into second. Also sometimes going into reverse you can hear it grind. I am going to try and change the fluid and put some better stuff in with an addative.

second gear always goes out on most manual transmisions, the syncro between 1st and second is used more than any other syncro. If you dont abuse your trany and shift right, they wont break. normal car transmions are not made for racing, speed shifting will ruin syncros. when the syncro is ruined it will cause grinding between gears. Also shifting at correct rpm will also cut down on wear.

Guys, if you grind while going into reverse, even while you are at a dead stop, do this...
Shift to neutral. Take your foot off of the clutch, wait 3 seconds, and then put the clutch in and shift into reverse.
Shouldn't grind.

Well I'm glad i'm not the only one with tranny issues. I just got my car 2 weeks ago and just thought i sucked at driving manual. My GTS grinds about 25% of the time going into second if i shift at or above 6k, and grinds going into reverse if i don't REALLY take my time and go slow. A couple of times going up into third was a problem also. But i still love the short throws...and EVERYONE i know is jealous of the 6-speed...so whoever said they're glad they have an auto...u must have somethin wrong with you or never driven a 6-speed.

Another way to have reverse not grind:
When you stop, push in the clutch, put it in first, then into reverse, then go. Everything should line up, as long as you don't roll between getting out of first and going into reverse.
