Not the rotor, but rather the part that appears to be connected to the rotor, which rests right up against the wheel?

You mean the rotor?

Circle where the problem is in this pic, because your rotors cannot rust. spineyes

yeah i think thats what its called, the rotor.

Wish I had a camera to take a pic but after it rained, the thing turned to some nasty orange spots on all 4 rotors. Kinda look like this.

Perhaps they are hard spots caused by excessive heat?

You could get them resurfaced, but that's only a temporary fix, and it will come back within a few thousand miles.

They will most likely have to be replaced.

I have clue. Nothing happened until it just rained recently and I saw that in the morning. Looks like I can scrub it off but its going to be a lot of work if it keeps up.

Just drive it and brake... just normally... those will just scrape off after pads "clean up" your rotor. it's it's on the surface...

Like what kenny_celi said... just drive. Rotors always accumulate a little "orange" stuff after it rains. After braking a couple times (when it's nice out) it'll be nice and clean once again.

What do you do if the connecting part between the rotor and the wheel is rusting? That's what mine is doing.

There's a spray that prevents a rust... I'll ask my friend what he uses... For me, I dont use those rust preventation thing... because I think they hurt the rotor... but I'll get back to you on that question later.

no wd40's pleaz... If ur dumb enough to put WD40... than you might as well jump off the cliff... because If you put WD40 on brake system, u're never gonna stop anywayz...

Sanding them down and then painting them is the only option other than replacing them with a rotor that's more resilient to rusting. I had my back rotors replaced some time ago and my front a little bit after that (both stock Toyota). My back rotors are in the rusted hall of fame, while my front rotors are not bad except for the venting area (the sides). I don't know if Toyota changed things around at one time, but it seems to me they did. The place that rusts is called the hats and my backs are far worse than my fronts which shows no rust. I purchased some Gibbs penetrant/lubricant/rust converter from a local machinist. I sprayed that stuff all over including my coilovers (except the piston), my camber links, any rusted bolt I saw, the CAI by the wheel well, and my calipers (being careful not to get it on my rotors). What a difference on all those! I wish I had this stuff from day one. My car would be almost like I drove it from the lot. That stuff eats, penetrates lubes, waterproofs, paint over, and protects the rust away. I did a test spray on the hats of my rotors and it made the area darker and killed the rust to an extent. I'm not about to try it any farther on my brakes. The calipers came cleaner than I though would. Just to put it into perspective. My friend had new calipers put on 2,000 miles ago and I have the same 80,000 mile calipers, yet after a spray and a wipe mine look better than his. Wow, that's a long explanation. I'll try shorter next time or give me a ring,
