So I thank you guys for answering my last question well. Im going to trade in my 2000 auto Celica GT and am going to look for a 2000 Celica GT or GTS manual. Thats the problem, I first figured this was a no brainer, I should just go for the GTS and pay the few grand extra. But then past comments on these boards dawned on me.
Some are saying that if you go with heavy racing mods, especially the Turbo then you should stay with GT. But if you want all motor then go GTS. GT will probably save me some money, but wont a Turbo on a GTS make it more powerful then a Turbocharged GT.
Im going to get my car appraised tonight, so the help would be appriciated.
Youre pretty much on the money. The higher compression GTS isnt Turbo-able. So all motor mods would be good. But the GT has a lower compression so a Turbo works well with it.
So if I did put a Turbo on a GT manual, how much horse power am I talking about average. Plus that would cost around 3500 I guess and kill a warranty. Atleast with GTS you get a more powerful engine, but I guess I cant use Turbo then.
well, if your SERIOUSLY going to do heavy mods and not just an Intake exhaust & headers. get the gt. Alot of people talk about HEAVY modding, but i havent sene much on this board(not saying this about you)..what im trying to say is, I fyour realistic and your going to make a show car go for the gt and dump crazy money into it. BUTTTT if your going to use it as a daily driver and your going to do mods like the majority of the memebrs here, go with the GTS, you can work on all looks, and then toss in some minor engine mods and you will be SUPER happy with the speed, handling and looks. BUTT..like everyone else said..if your going to pretty much dump 6-9k on your engine..get the gt.
Ive read pros and cons for NOS, Turbo, Supercharger and its a tough decision. Ive read (and i could off here) a Turbo could increase it to around 75+ HP. But thats not WHP. Supercharger gives about 40HP and NOS is usually a 50HP shot. To be honest the best solution (imo) is nos. I really dont like bottle racers but its wear on the engine is minimal compared to a Turbo always spooling up, especially if youre a daily driver. The nos is good when you wana slap around punks. Superchargers are basically the same as Turbo and continually wear on an engine. Its all personal choice but i dont like Turbo's myself they're just too easy to screw up.
i disagree big time. If you dont know how to use NITROUS (not NOS..NOS IS A BRAND!!!) you can severly damage your car. Second of all, a real nitrous setup goes for about 800 bux. EFI DP KIT from NX is the best IMO. Second of all, if you get a supercharger from toyota(i know i know..it doesnt fit..but you MAKE it fit). Your car will not get much wear and tear. It all depends if people know what they are doing. Bottom line, you get what you pay for and people need to learn that, if you get a ghetto ass Turbo from ebay and have some no name mechanic try to slab it together, your car will have trouble. And last you dont get 50horses off a shot with most nitrous kits.(ONCE AGAIN..NOT NOS!)
Depends on how much you use it. Dont get me wrong you can blow an engine up easily. But its not always pushing the engine like a Turbo is everytime you drive it.
Im not recommending nos. Just listing the possible options. Im no mod pro so my advice is always with a grain of salt. Like skoof said its a tricky system and if you dont know what you're doing you'll hurt the engine alot. Id just do bolt on mods if i were you.

dude GTS man... If you can afford it go with the GTS trust me man, you will love "Land-Lift" on the 2ZZ engine! ANd plus a 6-spd GTS is just sexy! I always get commented that I have a 6-spd GTS But anyways, it's your money so go with what your heart tells you
I can speak from experience. If your gonna Turbo, go with GT. And whoever said a Turbo gts will always be faster than a Turbo GT doesnt know what they are talking about. The GT engine is way more Turbo friendly, and once you get up there in hp, its just a matter of how much money you can put into ur engine and tranny to handle more power. A GT making 250 whp and a GTS making 250 whp, how is the GTS faster? If anything the GT is faster because its lighter. Also despite what people say Turbo can be very reliable if you get a good kit, have it installed properly by someone who knows what they are doing, have the proper precautions, and most importanly tuned right. And during daily driving i can drive from home to work and not hit boost once. Its all a matter of how heavy footed you are.
^werd!!! look at it this way, GTS gives your instant power as soon as you get it. but what you see is what you get. Turbo a GTS is do able but harder to accomplish. whereas GT, like everybody else said, it's easier to do. when you first buy that GT, you won't feel that much difference from you auto. sure, it's quickier, but not enough to blow any doors off. the GT can offer you more down the road, if you plan to invest into it. it comes down to this, do you want to wait and be slow now, then have more possibility in the future? or do you rather want that instant speed now, but limited speed? if you worry about warranty, don't even bother to mod your car at all, that along Turbo anything...
I had the same problem when purchasing my car...I was pretty pissed that Turbos came out wwwaaay earlier for the GT than the GTS...I also was worried not to much on the warranty but more on the reliablity and long lasting of my motor if i was to go Turbo...

Just get the gts. Youll enjoy the car right from the start. You can get leather. Youll have 6 speeds. And if you really want to you can run boost at like 6 psi. Remember that its not just money that makes a race car. It also takes a lot of time in the shop.

What do you mean by complete kit? Its not a complete kit if it doesnt have a standalone? I would consider the DA, the Stafford and the C2Gas kits all complete kits. As far as XS im not even gonna go there, lets just say i wouldnt put their kit on my car. As for Stafford's kit you can opt to have the powerfc if you want, and just pay extra. Stafford doesnt include it in his base kit because he doesnt feel its necessary unless you want to be making more than 300 whp the piggy back does fine. Then again it would still be a hell of a lot cheaper than an XS kit even if you opted for the powerfc, and ten times better quality.
