Hey guys i own an Auto GTS. I want to be able to roll, say 5 mph, and put it in neutral and rev the engine. I heard that when you start from neutral, rev, then drive its bad cause it stretches your bands. But what about rolling 5 mph and doing it? Is it dangerous to do that in an Auto? Thanks for any opinions.. -Patrick

just curious, why do you want to do that? well anyway my cousin was driving in the freeway in his celi...his girlfriend propped her knee up (don't ask why she did that ) and hit the shifter to N...when he panicked and dumped it to D...KABOOM!!!...

how do you think auto's spin out at red lights or soemthing? by revving the engine in nuetral then puttin it back to drive and BOOM do that a lot and yes something may happen

Im talking like going through an area rolling, such as a parking lot, and just Rolling through without touching the gas, and putting it in neutral and reving, then as it gets down to 1000rpms possibly putting it back to drive...

Why wouldn't you be able to do that? Just make sure that your RPM's are as low as possible when you go back into drive.

Now that is something Honda boy would do, roll by reving his engine. But no, its disengaged, it doesn't hurt anything, its the same as reving it if you were sitting parked. But if you rev it too high, your motor may take punishment. Now if you want some real fun, rev it to the limiter & dump it in drive. Neutral bombing is not for the faint of heart, it could cost you a tranny or a drive shaft.

after 2000 rpm is fine. The reason for the tranny to go bad is because, if you drop it from neutral there are lot of stress. but once its moving in certain speed, its fine. i don't think you can't burn on by rev while you are under 2000rpm. You have pass 2000rpm in order to burn or do anything. At least in GTS auto. It would have been better if we had better torque converter. Crappy is300 torque converter is on our cars. so we are lacking in torque. under 2000rpm

Worst case scenario is you screw up doing it and blow your transmission. again, if i'm wrong, i'm sorry. what happens in an auto when you're rolling in neutral and put it in drive is the transmission selects the highest gear given the speed. i've tried in my car, and it will shift at a little over 5MPH into second gear. i also put my car in gear in the mornings when the engine revs at around 1500 to warm up - it runs fine, but it does put more stress on the tranny. bottom line: if you rev and let the tach fall and shift under 1500, you'll cause extra wear, but you won't blow anything. just be careful. correct me if i'm wrong on any of this.

TO CLARIFY, this guy isn't talking about neutral bombing, he just wants to roll by in neutral & rev his motor up. Then return to drive when the motor has returned to normal rpm's.

this is one of the weirdest threads. first of all, why would you want to do that? as for facts, when ur driving on the freeway and let go the gas and put it on neutral and then shift it back to drive, ur tranny should be fine. cz there is no pressure on the tranny at all if ur not revving. now when it comes to revving the engine in neutral and then shifting it to drive, now ur asking for trouble. before anything, you would hear ur car go like goom. that will mess up ur tranny depending how bad you did it and will fuck up the engine mount. simple as that. as for burning out on automatic cars, the stupidest way to do it is putting it on neutral and revving it and then shifting it straight to drive. you fuck up hardcore, you hear a crack noise and you dont give a damn wut the noise is? its ur mount and ur tranny taking too much stress. for all you rooks who WANNA burn out with an auto, either put some torque on ur car somehow, or else put it on 1 and hold on the brake and rev as much as you want and then let go. you can work with the emergency brake depending on the road condition and wut you trying to do. NEVER shift an auto quick, NEVER rev on neutral and shift to gear. ur gear changes must be smooth or else you damage ur car unlike manual trannys. wait til you drop to 0mph and 750-1000rpm and then shift. dont shift straight from R to D while ur car is moving, brake as much as you can, shift to N and when you feel ur car is almost frozen shift to D. ^^lol. im teaching how to drive auto.

"NEVER shift an auto quick?" What does that mean? Dunno, but the newer cars with the sportmatic auto trannys that let you "shift manually" let you shift as much and as fast as you want and it won't hurt the transmission, because the instant you shift, it doesn't just go into gear. It's not like a manual transmission, the auto tranny will do the shifting for you, and very smoothly (depending on the model).
