^^^yup thats what i've always been told.. and heard.. but

.. yet when i :google:d ... i found this site..
which goes against everything we've ever heard eek

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm happywink

The one on the right was broken in as per MotoMan's instructions.

The one on the left was broken in exactly according to the owner's manual.

it makes sense n it feels like my car is not running properly due to the fact that i followed instuctions on the manual.ive heard a lot of ppl say if you run ur car from the beginning ur car is faster.maybe i was too careful in the beginning.

I have a really hard time believing that. I'm not 100% sure what the break-in period is all about, but supposedly, it gets the valves "seated" (whatever that is) and gets all the internal surfaces bonded with a thin film of semipermanent oil molecules. I can't imagine high revs will help the process; high revs put a lot of stress on internal parts that don't have a good "thin film" coating, and would put a lot of pressure on valves that haven't "seated" yet. I think pushing an engine hard early on will lead to premature wear.

I think pushing an engine hard early on will lead to premature wear. [/quote]thats exactly what theyre trying to do.
"From the actual gas pressure itself !! It passes over the top of the ring, and gets behind it to force it outward against the cylinder wall. The problem is that new rings are far from perfect and they must be worn in quite a bit in order to completely seal all the way around the bore. If the gas pressure is strong enough during the engine's first miles of operation (open that throttle !!!), then the entire ring will wear into
the cylinder surface, to seal the combustion pressure as well as possible."

No, it couldn't be 3000. I heard it takes 1000 miles to break your engine in. Then you let loose. I remember because I was extremely excited when I hit 1000 almost a month ago. Then I started speeding like you wouldn't believe. grin
