Well its been a good run with my celi, few problems & I have been very happy with it. After about 190,000KM oil consumption exceeded my expectations. Between oil changes I had never checked the oil (BIG MISTAKE), the engine ran dry & the oil light failed to illuminate. The engine began knocking & upon inspection I discovered the problem. Its still running and now has 207,000KM on it, but its life is very limited so something must be done.

Since an engine swap is far cheaper than a rebuild I started looking for a motor. I wanted to do a 2ZZ swap along with conversion to a standard tranny from the automatic. I was unable to find a suitable donor for a 2ZZ motor.

I did find a 1ZZ motor & auto tranny. Its not what I wanted, but the swap should go a lot smoother. Today I picked up the donor motor and tranny which have 26,987KM (16,769 miles) on them for $2,415 CDN ($1,843 USD).

be glad you didn't get a 2zz, if you tried to haul something with that, you'd NEVER get moving.

The 2zz torque curve is not good for towing, let alone making the GTS go anywhere at anything less than 5K RPM

Yah, neutral bombing with a trailer behind could get real messy. laughsilly

I guess automatic is a little better for towing as well, at least my skidoo isn't slamming back & forth on the trailer each gear change.

207,000KM = 129,000 miles

Thank you. smile Yah, I should buy a utility trailer one of these days & quit borrowing my friends. They are handy for all kinds of stuff.

I have owned lots of cars, the Celi is the toughest most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Props to Toyota, they built a great car. thumbsup thumbsup

Thanks guys, hopefully it goes smooth. I am just preping the garage at this point & I am working on getting an engine hoist. cool

The old motor is sounding pretty sad:
