Hi, I recently ordered some superwhite style bulbs for my main beam, however when they arrived I noticed they are rated at 5000k and a small notice on the side of the pack states that they are not for on road use and may generate excessive heat. As I am not wanting to: a) crack my headlight lens b) melt my headlight covers c) get done by the police for blinding people!
Can anyone give me some suggestions for some nice "blue-white" style bulbs that will do the job? Many Thanks!!

u should be fine. but with 5000K from just a bulb, i say you cant light up anything on the road.
btw, for these: a) crack my headlight lens b) melt my headlight covers c) get done by the police for blinding people!
HID does those, not the aftermarket bulbs. high K HIDs tend to blur ur headlight covers overtime and make them yellow over time.
the lens of the celica will be fine, i believe, from the HID or aftermarket bulbs. it's the covers you are really gonna worry about (IF you are to worry).
basically, dont think too much. you will be fine.
get a brand name aftermarke bulb. PIAA, MTECHH, POLORG.
dont buy EURO LITE, TYPE R or anything like that. basically, dont go cheap on the lightings. they are important.
EDIT: *** high Ks dont mean brighter. sometimes higher Ks give lower light out put. for HID, the brightest is 4100K - 5300K, anything above will lower the light out put. for aftermarket bulbs, it's better to stay in the 4000K-4300K range. (DO KEEP THIS IN MIND!)

yea definitely go with brand names, PIAA is a little expensive, MTECHs are good, polarg are good, hiper industries hold up really well for me, i would stay away from nokya because i heard some bad things about them

MTEC = Maruta as far as I can tell so these 5000k bulbs aren't necessarily brighter than 4000k bulbs eh? well you live and learn! Thanks for the help folks my mind is a little easier BTW - what does the "K" rating actually mean then?

K = kelvin, as in heat temperture. if you're low on budget, MTECH is decent. if you're loaded, PIAA extreme force. it's 4700K, i've them for 5 months. everything is fine...

^^ it's not kHz? I always thought it was the wavelength put out by the lights, and if you go to high it becomes ultraviolet, and our eyes don't see that...
and 4700 Kelvin is pretty hot...boiling point of water is 373 Kelvin (give or take a few).

I got HID 8000k Blue. Dont even go with pos halogen.
Ticket???? Not on Celica, The way it cuts the light i love it.
Fuk i cant drive with out HID. When i got my car i got HID of ebay at same day.
:note: 8000K has an approximately 2550lm output, which is about 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and slightly less light output compared to the 6000K. While it has a bit lesser light output, it emits bluer light than the 6000K. Please note: most customers have a common misconception that the higher the K (Kelvin temperature) the brighter it gets, but infact, it is the opposite. The K rating is inversely proportional to the light output, therefore the lower the K the brighter the light output. Also Xenon runs cooler and than your traditional halogen, therefore it will not melt your housing.

Thanks for the help folks my mind is a little easier BTW - what does the "K" rating actually mean then? K stands for kelvin, the color of light is measured by its temperature. As the temp increases the color gets brighter, with blue being the highest. A standard yellowish bulb may be more in the 2500k-3000k range where a superwhite or hid is 4200k+
