I've been noticing this weird metallic clangy noise coming from the front left brake. It only happens when I brake. But the weird thing is that it only occurs sometimes. My friends say my brakes look brand new still. What could be wrong? I wanna get some advise before I get ripped off at some dealer.

Sounds like you might need a new brake pad. Take it to a mechanic ASAP for inspection.

do brake pads really make a noise like that? I've been driving my car like this for a while (3-4 months). Could it get worse? what is the worst case scenario?

"i think my dad's gone crazy" rofl <--- sorry i read ur topic n i just had to say that.
ok sumthin that really relates to your topic...my brakes used to have that little *clunk* sound almost everytime i'm about to brake...if that's what ur talkin about, what i did was got a brake inspection n they said i just needed to get my brakes adjusted...i'll admit though, i'm not very good with brakes so i dunno what exactly it is they did to my brakes..but it did the job for me...hope that helps!

If it's pretty constant while breaking, then it is that your pad needs replaced. You do need to do it ass soon as possible. Safety of course is an issue, but also driving it like that screws up your rotors, a little and your can turn the rotors, depends on the width of the rotor wether it can be done or not. If you can't turn it, then you will have to get a new rotor along with the break pad. So, as with everything thing else on a car, when you think something is wrong you gotta be as quick as you can to fix it. Sounds like you understand that already, and I can understand not wanting to get ripped off.

My brakes always make a "clank" sound once when I press the brake pedal. It's been doing that for the past 15,000 miles. Is it normal or is there something wrong? The braking Performance doesn't seem affected. Maybe it's just the sound of the brakes engaging?

yeah, a friend of mine who's a mechanic said that it is the brake pads. He's charging me $40.00 for labor. Is that a good price for this type of job?
