Ok for all you turbo freaks out there, the DD Turbo is finished Pictures https://celicahobby.com/gal3/album16Thread DD Turbo Topic [ newcelica.org] Highlight From David Draper:
For you inquiring minds...
No, the MAF is not going to be located at the air box as is shown in the 13th pic, there's just going to be a cap in it's place.
Note that the intercooler sits high enough that the stock plastics can be retained. It utilizes stock mounting points. It's also ridiculously good at flowing air! The uprated intercooler is shown.
The manifold is 321 stainless steel, and will carry an unlimited lifetime warranty. Also, it is a split design, so those opting for a bigger turbo down the road can do so with minimal effort.
All the suppliers are ready to go, so it's just a matter of taking orders, which will begin on Monday We're going to do videoing tonight, and the first test car goes in for final tuning on Monday, and during that week dynos will be procured.
That's about it for now, but I'm ready to field questions, if there are any. Also, I'll be contacting those who have expressed an interest in purchasing the kit to find out how many are actually going to buy...apparently it makes quite a bit of difference to the steel company...
Hope you like Do not ask me any questions ... go read the thread.

dang...i might have to trade my gts for a gt so i can get a turbo!!! not just yet bro, he said his next project MIGHT be a turbo fot gts, and it should take less time. it all depends on how many gt turbos he sells. the profit made for gt turbos, he says, will go into developing gts turbos. David Draper is a saint, lol.

Teh turbo is only for the GT?! I'm gonna cry.
Edit "The kit is projected to produce 230 hp at the flywheel, and it has been installed on an automatic GT, although further testing will be needed to determine long-term results on the transmission."

Manual Trans...210 est. hp Auto Trans...170 est. hp
There are no dyno numbers yet either guys. Both those est. are for the stock airbox and stock exhaust. With the bigger intercooler and short ram option you'll definately get more hp.
BUT I'M NOT BUYING A DAMN THING TILL I SEE DYNO'S!!!

*Ahem* Excuse the n00b question. When you stated that teh DD trubo for the gt/manual transmission is est. 210 hp, does that mean 210 more or 210 all together?

the final hp numbers to the wheel are estimated at 210 whp for the manual and 170 whp for the automatic...that is all together a 70% increase in power...I just hope the auto #s are higher when they dyno it

210 all together? I'm having second thoughts now. I was gonna get a GT because of the gains in I believed was 210 more but now that I know this I'll just go w/the GTS instead.

BUT I'M NOT BUYING A DAMN THING TILL I SEE DYNO'S!!! That's kinda crappy... with a little work like i/h/e on a GTS, you can probably reach 180-190 whp on a GTS $4K for a turbo..all the hassles of keeping it tuned..turbo lag...not being able to drive all day with the turbo on... I wish it put out like 300 WHP...doesn't seem worth the wait to me

I'm pretty sure it will be more than that...he said on the nc org thread that they had 230 at the crank and one of the manifold bolts wasn't tightened completely, and he had lots of tuning left to do. He said he expected 40 more hp from the car once he was done. Pretty sure that's what I read anyways.

170 whp isn't really that bad, since the gt only puts down about 124 whp. It's a 50 hp gain, but I'm still looking to see a better # once the dynos are up. And yes, the GTS was 230 to the crank, which is why he said 210 whp..You have to calculate drive train loss man

Ok as I see it, Direct from the toyota website: GTS : 180 hp @ 7,600 rpm (130 lb.-ft. @ 6,800 rpm) GT : 140 hp @ 6,400 rpm (125 lb.-ft. @ 4,200 rpm) Toyota Celica Specs Page [ toyota.com] now for a 30 HP gain on the GT, $3500 dollors seems kinda steep...What you guys think?

ok, its not 140 hp to the wheels stock, but with the turbo, it IS 170 whp. so it more then 30 hp. and thats auto, which has a considerable drivetrain loss.

Yeah i know you have to calculate drivetrain loss...and i thought he said the GT had 230 at the crank and he was looking for about 40 more once he was done tuning. It had to be the GT because the turbo wasn't made for the GTS. So if that GT had 230 at the crank and more testing and tuning will be done, I'd say that's pretty good. I hope there's room for much more improvement and better numbers. I guess we just have to wait for the dynos.
