How To Change Clock Colorby Tater I have found that practically any color can be had using the green clock. It's just a matter of combining the correct combination of filters to achieve the desired shading. The key matching the blue of the cluster and radio LEDs is filtering out the green light using a purple filter. This will give the clock a light blue illumination. To get a medium blue illumination, layer a blue filter over the purple filter. Many folks have tried using just blue filters which results in either a teal blue or an extremely dim blue display. The clock can even be made to illuminate white if you wish by using multiple layers of pink film. Cellophane wrapping film can be used for the filters and is available at craft or party supply stores for a whopping $1.00 per roll so start saving your dough for this one. LOL Below is a reference pic showing some relative shadings and the filters used: This plug is the one on the clock. Disconnect this wire if you want the clock at full brightness at all times.

Yeah, I have a problem. I have an 04 Celica with an orange clock. The LED display is green with orange plastic on the center console. What color should I use to change it to green? Blue?
Curious as to what the green wire does and why it dims the clock. Why does disconnecting the wire prevent the clock from fading?

Curious as to what the green wire does and why it dims the clock. Why does disconnecting the wire prevent the clock from fading? That wire sends a small-voltage signal when the lights are turned on so the circuitry in the clock cuts voltage to the respective display, thereby dimming it. If you take the wire out, the clock doesn't get the signal that the lights are on. The same thing can be found in lots of aftermarket radios and it's typically called an accessory wire.

hmm, i've tried this but i was disappointed. the clock is hardly, if not at all, visable during the daytime. i liked, however, that the color did change, but i can only see the time at night.

If you cut the green wire on the clock , does it make your headlights dim at all since the clock doesnt have to dim?

well guys i just did this today. i put 3 layers of cellophane like instructed, but i assume 2 would work great also. i put 2 layers at the back of the ac console, and the colors are about the same except the clock a bit darker. the easiest way to put the cellophane in the clock base is unscrew and take off the clock housing from the center console first, then use the small screw driver to unscrew the clock from its housing. fold the cellophane three times, cut it to the size you can fit in the clock housing, so ur basically putting it behind the black plastic that you can see the time through (the housing). shove the clock unit back to the housing, screw them together, and back to the center console, be sure to cut that green wire cz it makes a difference. you dont want it to dim at night cz it wont match the ac lights.

I changed my clock to red yesterday and it looks okay. I was wondering if there was a good way to make the outer tinted plastic cover (on which is printed "passenger" ":00" etc.) not tinted. If that wasn't so dark, the clock would look a LOT better (and we wouldn't have to cut the accessory wire).
Any clues or suggestions? (I'm trying not to just cut a hole in that plastic, cause then I'm sure it would look ghetto.)
Also, did anyone try putting just a purple and a red filter on the clock? Purple will make a green clock white, and red will make a white clock red...that's two filters instead of three to make the green clock red. Anyone?

Aside from that, if you had a white clock and pink celophane, how might you think you'd make a pink clock? Now, with that, see that a green clock can be made pink with four pink filters, and then integrate in your answer fomr the last question and you'll have a pink clock.

I must have missed the part that describes how to access the filter on the clock. Is the clock removed from the housing?

I must have missed the part that describes how to access the filter on the clock. Is the clock removed from the housing? thats over here. https://celicahobby.com/forums/ubbt...how-to-remove-long-detailed-version.htmlwhen you remove the center console, you'll find two screws (just under the clips) attaching the clock to it. Separate the clock from the center consol. There is clear red plastic attached to the consol. your colored filter (described in the OP) goes between your clock and that red plastic.
