hey peeps long time since i've been here! oye, i have a problem. this morning my car wouldn't start. when i turned the key all the lights and stuff started flashing and it made this weird noise as if struggling to start up. it's a 2000 gt with like 30000 miles on it. nothing like this ever happened and i drive it nicely. do you guys think it's just the battery needs replacing? because my mom and dad both have toyotas from like '99 and '00 with more miles and theres is fine...help please i'm stuck in my house!! did anyone else have a battery replacement after like 4 years?

i've been told batteries go bad after about 3 years, regardless if the car was driven or not.

Usually 3-5 years, depending on the quality of the battery.

i do have an aftermarket alarm...i am not sure about the kill switch. i heard that batteries go bad around that time too, but it's weird that it should just die in an instant. plus the car is in real good condition all around. the car is trying to start, you can hear it, but it's just not starting. do you think i'm out of gasoline? it shows i have 2 bars left...

My stock battery only lasted 3 years so I guess you would call the stock battery poor quality. My car was produced late 2000. I replaced it last year.

No, it's your battery. They do go bad without warning, it's not like any other part on the car that will degrade over time and give you a fair warning.

Just replace the battery.

those can all work with a minimal amount of battery power but as soon as you turn the key its ups the load on the battery by almost 200% so yeah, 99.9% sure its your battery thumbsup

give us an update.

when you try to start your car, put your foot on the gas pedal and turn the key. rev it, see if it wakes up.

thats what i would have suggested you do. if your car still doesn't start i dont know what to tell you. sounds like your car is trying to turn over so it isn't your starter. your car is brand new still so its not your plugs or line. i bet it has to do with your battery. if you cant get a jump borrow a battery from someone or yank a lawn mowers battery and try starting it up

If you have an aftermarket alarm that's usually the next thing you should check after battery. Sometimes they cause problems, and if you take it to the dealer they're gonna blame the alarm.

I have a late year 2000 model. My stock battery went dead in Feb of 2003. It was like your situation, no click, but lights are working. The stock batteries that Toyota gives us are crap. Replace your battery and all will be well. Use the force.

Im pretty sure it's your battery terminals wave Check the wiring around them and make sure they are secure.

the stock battery has a site glass. Use a flash light (not matches please) to check the color. Or you can use a 'good' V. meter to check. A new battery should read between 12.6 to 12.9 V, if it reads 12V it is half die, if 11.5, you cannot start the car.

Ones with the site glass are gay, cause mine didn't even change color when it went out.

why are you all guys saying its the battery? if it was the battery, the car wouldnt have power. plus, the most important thing shes saying is that the car is trying to start but its not. so that means the noise of the few seconds that it takes you to start the car, thats the noise its making and the car is not starting. if thats the case, then first try to add some gasoline in ur car. r you parked on a hill? if its not the battery, neither gas, then it could be ur fuel pump, or else fuel relay. if the car still doesnt start, step on the gas pedal and start the car, if the car starts, try to keep the car revs 4000rpms. keep doing this until you feel that ur car is gonna idle normally.
if you usually put few dollars of gas in ur car, drive, pump again a few dollars, drive, that could have caused the problem. maybe you got some gasoline in ur sparkplugs area.
good luck and let us know

agree because you are geting power and it sounds like you are rolling over when you start. check all your wires and connections everywhere, that they are connected and not corroted.

i wouldn't buy a battery right away if i were u. if you think it is the batt jump it first

btw starters are hard to put in. i had to help put one into a pontiac with the mechanic at the station and it was hard

if its a manual go bump start it! my guess is the battery too, it takes a lot more juice to start a car then play a radio... and 30k is hopefully too soon for anything else

actually my alternator was charging the battery fine, it had perfect voltage, but it had lost its cranking amps, so i couldnt turn the car over, but i run everything else, the first time i had my dad come out, and hes like well the lights work, so the batterys not dead, then i took it to NTB (national tire and battery) and had them test it, they found the amps were around 200 when they should have been around 500-600... and that the voltage was fine...

just replace the battery and the car cranks great again
