I got a letter from a local dealership saying that they need to buy my car back because they need to "fill urgent vehicle requests." They have authorized to buy back my car for the highest possible "market value." I'd also get a whole bunch of other incentives...
Has anyone else received one?

steven...it's a dealer scam. the first rule of car salesmenship is to "get people in the door". that is what they are doing. to have you trade your car for a newer one...i get these all the time. if your car still runs great and are close to paying it off, don't do it. 5 more years of car payments is not worth it.

and comming from toyota corp. they are disconinuing the celica and mr-s due to lack of interest. why all of a sudden the demand for one??? you can go in and have them say what they have to say but more often than not you'll be disappointed as you go through the whole process of 'the pitch'. plus they will NOT GIVE YOU WHAT THE CAR IS WORTH. THEY WILL IND AND MAKE UP THINGS TO TRY TO DEVALUE THE CAR SO THAT THEY CAN SELL IT FOR MORE. IT'S ALL ABOUT PROFITS AND NOT YOUR WELL BEING. thumbsdown

I had my celi for a month or so, was having the fuel problems, while I was waiting to pick it up, I was in the showroom sitting in some cars...dillhole sales guy comes up and says "you like that, yeah, you should think about getting a new car, with new cars, you won't be sitting here waiting for repairs"

I just looked at him and said, I just bought my car from you guys a month ago.

He said "oh" and walked away.

I would love to get an offer like that and march in there with a major skeptical attitude and see what those dickwads have to offer. I got my new Celi last week after 6 months of e-shopping, and could tell you dozens of stories about sales reps that are major league out of touch with reality, or anything other than their lofty profit margins!

Arm yourself with KBB and black book valuations for your particular vehicle, and test those bastards sense of what is a "great offer". With all the MSRP info, dealer invoice info, and consumer info available these days, the car salesman is nothing more than an administrative conduit between us and the fine products we use on the ROAD TO HELL!!! (...sorry, got carried away there - all better!)

Tell them you want $4000 over dealer retail value for the car.

That will shut them up.

Weird.. at first I thought maybe they needed the car to sell to another one because there was some really ODD demand for the Celica in that area and that they would pay you what you paid for it.. wouldn't that be nice eh? Although that would make absolutely no sense at all.

The only way I'd trade my Celica in for a differant Toyota is if I got a really good trade value on my car and it was for a MKIV TT, that is the ONLY way. Although, same would go for any 911 or a 350Z grin

Try bringing your car to a dealership, and say you want to sell it to them -- but in return, you only want to buy the cheapest piece of shit they have.

Which won't work. 'Cause the only reason they want your celica, is to sell you something even more expencive.

So drop by, give them the finger, and drive on and enjoy your celica.

I'd go on in, let them show you and pitch you all the Toyotas they have out there... Then (if it's an automall type place), point across the street to one of the other dealerships and tell them you'd really rather have a Ford... See if they will actually try to get one for you wink

And even if they do, decide in the end that you're not really interested.

It also makes them happy when you do this right before lunch time wink
