Bored so I whipped this up. That little button is my garage door opener. Just tapped into the contacts on the remote, ran a line to a momentary switch, and then strapped it underneath the dash. MUCH cleaner than having my remote on my sunvisor! Should I keep it black or switch to a switch with a red button? Works really good & I may even have a bit more range since I strapped it to the metal bar under the dash, plus the wire to the switch.

where did you get this momentary switch? This is a switch that immediately disenages after you press it right? I need one for my overlays.

A momentary switch means it only makes contact when you press it. Once you let go the connection is off. Just like when you press the actual remote. I looked in a couple automotive stores to start with also. But they only had huge ugly ones that ran on 12V. I got the switch from Radio Shack for a couple of bucks. They also had one with a red button. LOL the one time I don't take any pics when I do it. But that's ok I'll whip up a guide tonight using the other remote. I tied into the 2 contacts on the circuit board. etc etc. I'll post something up later tonight.

just went shopping. Picked up another switch. I'll posts pics of the switch along with the packaging and part number. I should be able to get it all done and up tonight. Works great. I got the idea from my wife's vehicle. On her Windstar, the remote is hidden in the upper console and you press this little door which presses the button. Since her's wasn't out in the open, I figured I could hide mine too. Again, I'll get it all up tonight.

UPDATE: here's a quick teaser. A pic of the actual switch. This one has a red button instead of black. What's nice, is that #1:, it's round so drilling the blank is easier than a square one. #2: there is a lip on the switch with the main part going through the hole in the blank, with the nut to hold it together on the inside. That way if the nut were to ever fall off, you would never push the switch right through the hole.
Part Number 275-646

That is soooooooo awesome! Nice work.
I don't have a garage though - but I hate my "remote"! I live in a high-rise building so I have a "Gated Entry" - the remote works on the parking meter to get in and out (where people stop to pay) and then I go underground and the remote also works on the secured gated parking area for homeowners... I have a remote the HOA gave me.

Think I could do this too???

(And your vent is pretty dusty - you should get that spiffed up! hehehe smile )

how about wiring it up to the over drive switch... when you pull up infront of ur house at low speeds just tapping the over drive wont make much of a difference, and on the highway when you use it, it wont have the range to open your garage door

Very creative. I don't have a garage and I already used the switch bay for my CCFL footwells. I'd read the guide just to see how you did it. thumbsup
